And there's been more discussion around the whole Taylor vs. Olivia situation lately because Olivia went on Popcast and The New York Times asked her how the Taylor Swift royalty drama made her feel. She refused to acknowledge it properly but judging by her body language during the interview, you can tell this still bothers her deeply. And that is her right to feel that way.

She clearly feels like Taylor's team/label took advantage of her with the deja vu credits. The media knows this, and they're hungry for this story because they KNOW it generates clicks. Thats why so many interviewers are alluding to it in her interview. They want her to give a response. If anything Olivia not acknowledging it and brushing it off works in Taylor's favor, cause she could easily spin it in a "Taylor is the villain" thing cause she knows its a bad look for Taylor.

I don't think it's fair to make that Olivia's fault. She's literally just releasing her album and doing standard promo.

I have only seen obsessed haters make these Taylor vs Olivia thread.... we've done nothing to incite hate except for existing... however this will change, from now on you will find me in every Olivia, Bille and GaGa hate threads.

I think it makes Swifties look a little insecure. Taylor is the most consumed female artist of all time. She has 4 AOTYs, is in the Songwriter Hall of Fame, is a TPOTY recipient, and created the biggest musical event of the 21st century. Showgirl's streaming week alone, with 12 tracks and before the formula change, was 500k units. Speak Now was pulling over 1 million pure back in the day. Some of y'all need to remember who she is and stop worrying about a Gen Z girl doing well.

As for the situation, I think the musical evidence makes it clear they both drew blood in some way. But neither of them talk about it so I think we should just let it go, too. If the situation were cut and dry, the totally innocent party would have a major incentive to just clear the air. Neither Taylor nor Olivia is seemingly willing to do so, so I think it's time for us to drop it too. To imply that Olivia is conducting some media campaign to connect herself to Taylor is silly. The media has always done that to her because the connections are so obvious and they have history. It's almost Gaga/Madonna reminiscent except Taylor is still by far the most popular artist in the world. Don't y'all remember when CNN released that article at the height of Eras mania that publications were just throwing her name into articles to boost engagement? I think that is much more likely here than Olivia personally demanding publications write articles connecting her to Taylor .

Honestly for me the more impressive thing about the folklore wall is how nobody managed to break it for 5 years despite Spotify becoming much larger than it was than 2020

Olivia didn't with GUTS (which also underperformed but w/e), Ariana didn't with ES, Sabrina didn't with SnS or MBF, Billie could've with more tracks but it's not anyone's fault she didn't put more tracks on that album

I think I'm largely over this conversation strain at this point. I like the album, but I want Taylor Swift base to tell me about Taylor news and discuss her recent output, her future output, her wedding, her interviews, her concerts. I'm going to start ignoring people who are stuck in their rut on things that aren't Taylor.

Does anyone want to talk about what vault songs we are looking forward to? Or what we'd like to see on the album? (Reimagined tracks à la girl at home? Features on songs? Sorry, I just don't get the point of 1) being clearly upset about this song, 2) pretending people said things about its expected success that basically nobody actually did say, 3) acting like a strong #1 hit is a "flop," and 4) acting like we can't wait to see if the movie helps the song become a longer-term hit. Like, it's a Disney sponsored Taylor Swift song. Come on.

No one expected a soundtrack single to outperform the lead single of her last studio album, be so for real

IKIIKY is performing pretty well for a soundtrack single, and whilst it has been bolstered by some of the variant sales/radio in points, it still was #1 in streaming - and that's just the facts!

Some people just get on here and say anything

A #1 is a #1, not everyone can reach top spot.

At this point of Taylor's career, I want her to get some quick #1s to reach that majic number of 20.
