The Anthology took about a year to marinate for me but I really really enjoy it now… it's essentially Evermore the sequel and that's perfectly fine. But yeah Volume 1 eats The Anthology for me.

Tbf, I for one love TLOAS while can't tell a lot of songs from TTPD from another, and I won't be the only one who think so. When TTPD came out, it was dragged through the mud as well, we are just on a revisionist history rn while TTPD being praised while TLOAS is dragged

i remember saying the something in the vein of "you guys are really picky when it comes to taylor" when "i knew it, i knew you" first came out because a lot of people were dragging it or calling it mid. not just the haters, of course.

now, the song's commercial performance swaying a few minds during the tracking week is something different…

and def agree to disagree on ttpd vs showgirl because to me showgirl is definitely way more enjoyable through and through. lol. that's the beauty of tay's discography.

i have this same sentiment. my thing with showgirl is that every song at least has a distinct melody to it. tay might as well have been reading poetry on the anthology cause the songs barely have any catchy melodies and can blend into one another. and the albums serve totally different purposes, so that's fine. but def more of a showgirl fan.

If you're mad at Olivia/Swifties defending her…girl. Taylor is going to be the biggest selling solo artist of all time. And Olivia will literally be compared to her for her entire career. Not to be morbid, but I doubt Olivia will show up in Tay's obit. Taylor will certainly show up in Olivia's. It's giving Madonna/Gaga. No one is touching Taylor. Olivia is literally among the biggest Gen Z stars and is entirely in the Taylor mold. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. No one is ever touching Taylor. Complaining too much about this comes off as bitter and insecure. And this isn't even like Gaga/Madonna where Madonna was basically done. Taylor is still the (much!) bigger artist!

Whatever went on between them is over. The musical evidence from both of them makes it clear they both drew blood. If there was some completely innocent party, it would take about 30 seconds to clear that up. Neither of them want to as they both seem implicated. Taylor has never done anything publicly aside from supporting her. Let it go.

The Anthology is one of her worst musical outputs this decade. It's trash sans a few songs. She should've trimmed TTPD into a 13 song album with the strongest songs from both parts, and she should've gone harder in the production. There's no Reason Fortnight is not a rock song.

Personally, I consider The Tortured Poets Department a masterpiece, but that doesn't mean I don't find it bloated or think its tracklist should be trimmed down; many songs share a similar message and don't really need to be there. Personally, this is how I organized my TTPD tracklist:

This might not be perfect and would definitely need some fine-tuning, but now every song has its own distinct message, and the album's core theme has been preserved, keeping all the highest peaks in terms of lyrics and music/production. Furthermore, I would have released The Anthology at least three days later, giving people time to digest and appreciate the standard tracks. The surprise midnight drop of the deluxe version worked for Midnights because, musically speaking, Midnights is easier to digest thanks to its pop tracks and much stronger beats. TTPD takes time, and releasing it with eight fewer tracks (which, by the way, are all boring songs that poorly repeat what other tracks express much better) + delaying The Anthology would have allowed critics and the GP to appreciate Taylor's work a lot more.

Girl, just wait. We still have the Super Bowl, multiple legacy tours, a biopic, and a Broadway musical in our future. Not to mention repressings of all the old albums, collectors editions, Debut TV, rep deluxe, and at least 4 or 5 studio albums with massive units.

The impact of Taylor getting "passed on" to a new generation is just getting started, too. Her spread on that is wider than MJ. He was only the top artist of a single decade and Taylor will be for two. Her Gen Z fans aren't really people who Taylor was passed to, they're native fans of her enormous 2020s career, equally likely to pass her on as millennials. That's the children of two distinct generations being given Taylor at the bottle!
