  1. it depends what you want from them i think? like i liked glitch princess but it's very depressing and i think this was their effort to shift into more of an altpop vibe which is much more interesting to me and probably less so to people who liked serotonin and softscars (i think they even talked about listening to avril in interviews around it lol)
  2. i can't just have one so i'll do a quick top 10, not that considered doja cat - scarlet LISA - alter ego halsey - manic tate mcrae - so close to what taylor swift - midnights magdalena bay - mercurial world kendrick lamar - mr morale and the big stepper yeule - evangelic girl is a gun camila cabello - c,xoxo sabrina carpenter - short n sweet
  3. didn't see this directly above me lol
  4. i think she's going to be big in the uk long term, she's just quietly started hanging about, but i can't say i think there's much to her. she does have a good voice but all the songs are pretty similar, she's a bit cut price adele

there's so much going around atm that i'd just assumed there was a new era more or less ready to go, would be very on brand for her to make a big fuss tho and then do...absolutely nothing lmao
  7. having a listen to this now and it's good i think? for yr entertainment esp is a bop
  8. britney obvs - honestly i couldn't tell you what happened in the gaga performance, britney is the one with the snake!
  9. they do when they listen to enough ava max classics!
  10. tbf i went on the lastfm subreddit last week a bit and like everyone there listens to kanye? and not even classic kanye, it's full nazi era stuff lmao
  11. insane that olivia dean is there twice with two songs on ACR lmao, if we got rid of the rules she'd just be #1 forever now
  12. i agree with this, you don't get this kind of top tier song factory type record nearly so much these days and there's an art to making it so good, both for the performers and writer/producers. i can imagine KATSEYE doing something like this but they're inconsistent as it is
  13. as if to show it can always be worse, i'd have stood a few more weeks of rein me in at this point Official Chart First Look: Full Update 1 HUGEL, Imael Angel & Ultra Naté - Movin' to the Sun 2 Ella Langley - Choosin' Texas 3 STELLA LEFTY - Boston 4 SIENNA SPIRO - Great Expectation 5 Sam Fender & Olivia Dean - Rein Me In 6 Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 7 Olivia Dean - Man I Need 8 Olivia Rodrigo - the cure 9 Dua Lipa - Training Season 10 SIENNA SPIRO - Die on This Hill 11 Dolly Parton - Jolene 12 Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream 13 Miley Cyrus - Bass Persuades 14 Tame Impala - Loser 15 KATSEYE - Animal 16 Alyssa Grace - bloodstream 17 sombr - My Body Isn't Ready 18 Shakira & Burna Boy - Dai Dai 19 Alex Warren - Ordinary 20 Malcolm Todd - Earrings
  14. no i agree with that, i still like thank u next but like i do feels like quite a bloodless version of something like 7 rings or bad idea, it doesn't have the same charm? it's not terrible but it's bottom third of the album, petal the song i think is a much better variation on the same idea the soft rnb songs i think have their own vibe here, stuff like big feelings and never get over me come from the same line as the positions deep cuts but they fit more comfortably into this album overall i think and also are just very fun and catchy
  15. it just feels a bit weird, it's like a novelty song, tho ngl i wouldn't listen to it voluntarily
  16. i think its the one rihanna album pre ANTI where most of the songs could have been a single so it's not really a surprise
  17. ok Adele - MIA for years, might return in triumph, might flop horribly - we just don't know! Christina Aguilera - career dead and buried Beyoncé - waning a bit commercially, still capable of dominating the cultural conversation Kelly Clarkson - pop career fairly stagnant now but still a big name in entertainment Miley Cyrus - as mercurial as ever, long past her commercial peak but on her own path and capable of big surprises Kesha - not a mainstream pop force after years of legal misery but finding her way as an independent as a fun and individual artist Lady Gaga - will never quite recapture the power of her early hits but still a major player Nicki Minaj - increasingly embarrassing Katy Perry - less embarrassing P!nk - trapeze artist Rihanna - living off of a remarkable legacy, sideline as a smurf whisperer Robyn - never much a commercial force but still incredibly influential and popping up from time to time with more good work Shakira - extraordinarily successful for someone who's been around for 30 years, have spent the last month wondering if she'd get another uk #1 Britney Spears - a cautionary tale more than anything but still as big an icon as any of the more current stars Taylor Swift - possibly just over the crest of it now, possibly not, but the most extraordinary pop career of our lifetimes Carrie Underwood - on the way down, MAGA
  18. have decided that i like this, i think the tate comparisons struck me a lot early on and it is very light compared to what she might have done (like i care) but it's more ambitious that its detractors give it credit for, there's a few unusual songs that stand out esp in the 2nd half and it's a good, consistent listen
  19. i listened to the podcast and it was fun, just in the sense of talking about the idea of a #1 being at the centre of popular culture at that moment and a #2 hit being a bit more peripheral, more like an artist who you wouldn't expect to see there or some esp weird song that surprised the hosts by doing so well or (in recent years) maybe with some drake song that everyone forgot about a week later this thread however is not really about that, it's about dragging taylor swift or whoever else ATRLers like bitching at who've had a lot of #1s
  20. i thing i noticed from having blackout on vinyl is how well it fits into a 2 side experience even tho it wasn't released on vinyl for years? like the whole vibe of the album builds up to get naked i got a plan in the middle, this bizarre moment right at the centre of the album which seems to drift off into forever at the end of the side, and then you get the wubwubwubwub of freakshow to restart it on side 2 i don't think it would even have been released on tape by that time but it feels very well sequenced in that way, idk if in the zone comes off so much exactly like that tho it definitely feels like an album of two halves, britney s/t definitely does tho
  21. whole of the first half is flawless imo, one of the best runs in pop music
  22. they sent it to radio here and it still bombed lol sorry to myself little bit say it here all night kiss
