Blank Space is genuinely her best constructed pop song ever. From the production, the melodies, the lyricism, the vocal performance... and even the visuals and the association with a revered pop album. That's a perfect storm. It's just super smart and earwormy but not irritating in a SIO kind-of-way. Blank Space TV is getting a bit less than 400k streams. Love Story would be above 2M combined. YBWM 1.8M. Wildest Dreams 1.7M. I don't really know the cutoff for the Spotify top 200 though but I imagine these would make the cut, no?

Ngl, I think it's pretty clear nobody would even try to strong arm Taylor about anything in the first place, and if they did they'd end up losing anyway, like all the other ones. Taylor would obviously do right by the people she closely work with, and also wouldn't let someone else dictate her moves now that she's basically the most powerful person in the music industry. So, even if it wasn't her saying "Free Palestine" either (which is a shame btw), she wouldn't have gone the same route as Ed Sheeran. That's for sure.

Young people just aren't as interested in what was of importance to us in pop music a decade or more ago. Things have shifted from aspirational to inspirational, or at least pretends to be, ever since covid. I can't help but think that this is because we live in a world where it becomes increasingly difficult to tell the difference between the real and the fake, so this performance of relatability and simplicity is sought after.

I understand what he's trying to do, it's just not for me. The MV is really really good. The production sounds expensive and Music is very well integrated, it's really not a cheap-sounding interpolation. So why can't we have a lyric and a melody to just go along with all those amazing parts? That's so disappointing because it feels like the potential was through the roof for this project so far and that's what we're getting.

I'm all for it actually. But if we're keeping anyone let it be Aaron. The number of songs she did with him that I don't love is limited to Thank You Aimee and Robin. Not counting the vault tracks that's a 96% success rate. And he also did most of evermore which is her best album so there's that too.

Burning Heart is so so so good

I don't think any would do as well as Rihanna because she just has the biggest catalogue of smashes of any of them by a large margin, but Taylor would certainly also remain highly relevant. Beyoncé too. I think these 3 are the only that would generate monumental hype for a new album after a decade-long hiatus.
