  1. it just feels a bit weird, it's like a novelty song, tho ngl i wouldn't listen to it voluntarily
  2. i think its the one rihanna album pre ANTI where most of the songs could have been a single so it's not really a surprise
  3. ok Adele - MIA for years, might return in triumph, might flop horribly - we just don't know! Christina Aguilera - career dead and buried Beyoncé - waning a bit commercially, still capable of dominating the cultural conversation Kelly Clarkson - pop career fairly stagnant now but still a big name in entertainment Miley Cyrus - as mercurial as ever, long past her commercial peak but on her own path and capable of big surprises Kesha - not a mainstream pop force after years of legal misery but finding her way as an independent as a fun and individual artist Lady Gaga - will never quite recapture the power of her early hits but still a major player Nicki Minaj - increasingly embarrassing Katy Perry - less embarrassing P!nk - trapeze artist Rihanna - living off of a remarkable legacy, sideline as a smurf whisperer Robyn - never much a commercial force but still incredibly influential and popping up from time to time with more good work Shakira - extraordinarily successful for someone who's been around for 30 years, have spent the last month wondering if she'd get another uk #1 Britney Spears - a cautionary tale more than anything but still as big an icon as any of the more current stars Taylor Swift - possibly just over the crest of it now, possibly not, but the most extraordinary pop career of our lifetimes Carrie Underwood - on the way down, MAGA
  4. have decided that i like this, i think the tate comparisons struck me a lot early on and it is very light compared to what she might have done (like i care) but it's more ambitious that its detractors give it credit for, there's a few unusual songs that stand out esp in the 2nd half and it's a good, consistent listen
  5. i listened to the podcast and it was fun, just in the sense of talking about the idea of a #1 being at the centre of popular culture at that moment and a #2 hit being a bit more peripheral, more like an artist who you wouldn't expect to see there or some esp weird song that surprised the hosts by doing so well or (in recent years) maybe with some drake song that everyone forgot about a week later this thread however is not really about that, it's about dragging taylor swift or whoever else ATRLers like bitching at who've had a lot of #1s
  6. i thing i noticed from having blackout on vinyl is how well it fits into a 2 side experience even tho it wasn't released on vinyl for years? like the whole vibe of the album builds up to get naked i got a plan in the middle, this bizarre moment right at the centre of the album which seems to drift off into forever at the end of the side, and then you get the wubwubwubwub of freakshow to restart it on side 2 i don't think it would even have been released on tape by that time but it feels very well sequenced in that way, idk if in the zone comes off so much exactly like that tho it definitely feels like an album of two halves, britney s/t definitely does tho
  7. whole of the first half is flawless imo, one of the best runs in pop music
  8. they sent it to radio here and it still bombed lol sorry to myself little bit say it here all night kiss
  9. real lesser evil politics here atm of interest! RE 18 dua lipa - training season (no proper new entries afaics) https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/20260904/7501/ https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/albums-chart/20260904/7502/
  10. problematic fave, i'm just tryna find a way to post this song without being disrespectful
  11. it's a bit of a departure and many ariana fans like to play the aggrieved party at more or less anything that she does anyway so there was always going to be whining, had it been a bigger hit they'd probably have shut up. but i think it's really good as well
  12. i haven't heard it yet but i'm old enough to remember adéla having interesting collaborators and looking like she was heading for an altpop lane while ain't in LA felt very...i'm not going to say safe cos i don't really care if it's a bop but just a bit obvious? like a much more straightforward rip off than most people who are any good would expect to get away with and it doesn't sound like this is any better, she can prove me wrong before this time tomorrow tho

break doesn't look very comprehensive tbh, i wonder if it was more a way of making a quick exit around the current mess? i mean, good for her anyway
