I listened to this last night and it's shocking how bland, basic and devoided of personality this sounds, as well as dated. Luke did her so wrong with this...

 

People didn't lie when they said this feels AI'd. The lyrics, the production, etc. I would say it sounds like any other eurovision entry, but even most of those have some personality to it, this does not.

The kid singing in Wonder is not Daisy apparently, it is a kid called Tius Luka.

The whole album is pretty good 7/10

Lifetimes really is a highlight in the context of the album, which is... surprising. At least it really feels like a DANCE record. All The Love is cute, I think the EDM production of Wonder would've fit it more tho. Nirvana is ugly, sorry, but the great chorus melody isn't worth that washing machine type of instrumental. JID has the best moment on the whole album, his part sounds so exciting compared to Katy's lullaby mood. Truth... is there. Wonder could've been a cute EDM droplet single.

I agree with the criticism that it's sonically nothing new in the market (esp Lifetimes, Crush etc.) but to say it's a repetitive of her previous music is objectively false

I mean is Daisy even old enough to form coherent sentences yet? I would be surprised she would be on the album. It's a cute moment nonetheless

Respectfully, y'all need to stop with these claims of objectivity. It doesn't strengthen an argument, it's a scapegoat when you're being disagreed with. 

 

To me (and to many others, as evidenced by this thread) this record is a regurgitated patchwork of her previous 3 albums. Subjectively, of course.

Not gonna lie, the first stretch of the album is so bad, I was even going to conspiracy territory that it was so the rest would sound ok-ish by comparison.

 

I don't get why she had to go back to this producer for this album, I think her work with Zedd for the droplet Smile eras was better than what she served here. Even if the inspiration was 90's dance music, it could have had a bit more of a punch to it, I don't like this critique a lot, but yeah this sounds very generic most of the time. A lot of the transitions are great, though.

 

Overall it's like a not horrible, but not great album, with some more questionable choices than it should've had.

She's just became very lazy when it comes to making music and doesn't want to push herself anymore, hence we got 143 a safe "dance pop" album with mostly generic beats. I mean it still has  some interesting moments and the songs in itself are sonically enjoyable but the chatgpt'd lyrics make it seem very cookie cutter and formulaic. If the 2005-2008 Katy was still here, we would be seeing so much of her real personality and flair and humor and a unique pov in her music, everything that she shows in interviews like this. But I think she's just become very complacent with making music from a very detached-surface level lens since she got a taste of superstardom and wealth a decade ago. I'm still holding out hope that she goes back to Greg Wells and taps back into the old pop-rock Katheryn who used to write amazing songs with her own pov like I'm Still Breathing and Lost.

None of y'll had anything nice to say about Smile either - which is literally a compilation of all Katy's signature sounds in her first 4 albums

It's like she went on an alleged-rapist assisted crusade against good taste, it makes my ears crave assisted suicide. Why does her voice sound like someone tried to learn a squeeling pig vocabulary? At least that would be an excuse for the filth and stench of those lyrics. People say they're chatGPT like but maybe should've used that to save us from the inane drivel that's here. She sounds almost like her former self on Wonder, but then that kid swoops in and destroys any last hope of a decent pop song.

 

To think this is the woman who released Never Really Over! Fire everyone involved, including her own brain if anything remains of it after it has been woo woo'd to death in LA.

Comic how you're referring to 2/4 songs from Witness aka her previous experimental album, proving exactly what I mean. Idk in which part of TD or Prism you can hear something similar to Artificial. The fact that small details remind of her previous works (like Legendary lovers coded oh-oohs of Nirvana) it's just her personality that you all are claiming so much! This is the point, you all simply don't want to see how she's mixing new and old elements in order to evolving and at the same time doing it in her personal style. But I guess Katy can never win with many listeners.

It's very much an album that any european pop girl releases trying to find a foot in the market. 

 

I'm not mad at the songs. I will come back to this album, mainly for gym purposes. 

 

However did I expect more? 100%. 

 

But people giving this album 3/10 are just hating on her.

EXACTLY. There's so many mental short circuits when it comes to Katy's music

tried listening for a 2nd time but only really made it until i'm his, he's mine

 

dr luke's 143 is just so bad. the amount of times she wanted to recreate  ET and Dark Horse with gimme gimme, gorgeous and artificial in this album alone  she doesn't have a single artistic bone in her body help

 

 

artificial needs to be the 4th lead single because its the most interesting song in her career ever and if it flops atleast she would flop with dignity. JID and Doechii's verses saved this turd album

I'm honestly amazed at Katy's ability to consistently release such bad albums one after the other. We already knew she wasn't an album artist, but at least her singles could've been good. While I do like her visuals, unfortunately, since the Witness album, there's been a decline rather than any improvement in them. I hope this album era either ends quickly or that after "I'm His, He's Mine" becomes a hit, she takes a break and comes back with a better project. Not for the charts, but at least with more mature work aimed at her growing audience. On the bright side, this album (excluding the singles) is much more listenable compared to Witness.
