Katy Perry - '143'

Featured Replies

I genuinely don't know how people can say this is better than smile. Never really over, cry about it later and Harleys in Hawaii alone are better than anything on this chatgpted album.

She just sounds so flat and bored on flat and boring production. Truth has a slight bit of pep to her voice. Wonder is the best song by leagues and miles and even though the lyrics are kinda giving early 2010s love yourself positive pop vibes she doesn't sound like she doesn't want to be in the studio here.

That being said it's still not even as good as tucked or Champaign problems :deadbanana2:

I really really dislike basically everything on witness but I think tsunami and roulette are better than anything on this as well so...

I'm tired of the hate train against Katy. Why do people keep picking on her? It's so unfair....... Even though her so-called friends drove her into becoming a rape victim and gossiped about her b

Woman's World is probably the best song and most related to Katy Perry as a act and the fact Katy fans are ignoring this fact, means her fanbase is so out of touch of who she really is as a pop artist.

I kinda agree with this fact, no matter how unpopular.

IHHM would be the best lead single considering the overall album and the concept, but WW, no matter the reception, still has that Katy character inside it.

Crush and Artificial are the absolute highlights of this album. The first two literally what i always wanted from katy, a fun silly danceable hit and FINALLY some experimenting. SHe might go the acoustic way for the next album but i really loved what she did with artificial, its an interesting sound and lyric wise it reminds me of an edgier Mannequin from OOTB. And wonder it's like the most katy perry song ever, perfect to close the album, and not produced by you know who so it's refreshing 8/10

Wonder was the only interesting and fresh song on this album. Reminds me of What About Us by Pink. I think it's a shame that track 2, 3 and 4 are features. We have not waited +4 years to be feed with features in the beginning of the album. We're here for Katy.

Katy is known and popular for her colorful and bright lyrics/melodies. This album is nothing of that. The production is dated and what's up with the trap influences? Wonder felt inspiring and uplifting, that should've been the theme for the entire album.

Wonder is so P!nk coded tbh, I could see her and yellow on it as well :eli: It's basically All I Know So Far on steroids

I guess I have to make peace I'll never get another 365 or HIH from her

This is not as bad as I thought but also not good,it's bland and lifeless. Idk why she bothers releasing this or her ear for good pop tune is completely lost

Nirvana is so boring, can't believe y'all were hyping up that one

Artificial and Crush's production sounds so AI'd :biblio:

All The Love boring as hell too

Truth is her worst track ever I fear

Not a single collapse for me I fear

My early ranking:

1.  Nirvana - CMON!!! WHY wasn't this the first single ?!?!!? love it. just wish it had a better drop.

2. Crush

3.  Lifetimes

4. Artificial

5. Wonder

6. All The Love

7.  Truth

8. I'm His, He's Mine

9. Gorgeous

10. Gimme Gimme

11. Woman's World

The singles are easily the worst songs.

Wonder and Nirvana give me that nostalgic feeling I always enjoy, wish the album was more like that.

I hate Crush production but the melody is easily the strongest in the album

La dada dee

La dada dee

.....

Are there any slow songs/ballads on the album or what is the closest?

All The Love is a midtempo and comes the closest to a ballad, kinda in the vein of Miss You More (a little more upbeat tho)

Oh, I see, the album is very electronic then, might give it a chance later

The fact that many of you keep saying that Wonder is the only good song (super predictable) shows how you all are missing some points and, sorry for saying it, how superficial is your music consume. Wonder and WW (like it or not) are the tracks nearest to Katy's old style: pure pop, uplifting, hopeful, anthem-like. But you have to understand that every artist evolves with times and experiments new sounds and styles. I think that the biggest problem for Katy's career it's indeed the fact that people constantly beg her to give the same image/style/song and at the same time critic her for the same reason, ignoring and snubbing all her tries to make something different. It has shown with Witness and it's showing now with 143. Smile was the perfect product for that request and guess what, it didn't do anything. So the thing is respect Katy as an artist and her right to produce what she wants as expression of her art and simply enjoy the music, just like you all do with other artists.

Half of the album in and you have a Stupid Love ripoff (with a great melody tho, it's classic Katy), 3 similiar sex jams with the same loud as **** handclaps (seriously what is this obsession with the handclap???) that are only differentiated by their BPM and 2 songs that have the same lyrical hook ("la da dee" and "la la dee")...

Interesting:suburban:

Are the evolution and experimentation in the room with us?

Almost every track on this album feels like an attempt to recapture and recreate the sonic glory of one or more of her previous hits.

It's the lack of growth that is so disappointing.

She has never made anything like IHHM, Artificial, Gorgeous, Nirvana in her career

Thank God

From the first listen I like the song with Kim Petras and IHHM is decent, but the rest sounded very generic and I'm not rushing to revisit.

Love Katy but this is just not good. It has no soul, every song sounds like it would be created by AI. All of the wit and charm from her first 5 albums simply does not exist here.

This is one of the weakest pop albums by a massive pop girl I've ever heard on first listen or 2 and I was a huge Katy fan at one point so I tried really hard to have as good of an opinion as I can but yeah this project is just a misfire of insanely high proportions.

I respectfully disagree.

IIHHM: Bon Appetit's verses with a slower BPM

Artificial: Dark Horse in a different font

Gorgeous: Dance With The Devil meets Sam Smith's Unholy (Katy's Version)

Nirvana: Walking On Air from Wish.com

I like Crush, All the Love and Wonder. Everything else is not it.
