the album promised bops and it delivered. i never expected any profound lyrics and/or complicated song structures

i do agree that some songs could've gone harder (*cough* nirvana), but there's a few decent bops i'll be obsessed with for the next few weeks

This has got to be her worst album. I don't understand why she went this way with the album.  

A nice fun & short album - wonder, nirvana gorgeous are my top 3 right now.

Worst album of the year, i'm so sorry miss Perry

this woman is so frustrating but i've been telling myself to stop feeling bad for her bc she's a millionaire and i have more to worry about. but godddd, everything abt this comeback was a series of stupid decisions one after the other. it really bothers me that someone with that much access to information and resources can be this tone deaf. this is the first album of hers that i genuinely dislike. witness and smile had way worse lows but they had some highs that felt interesting/creative and that i could tell some effort and attention was put into them. this is just flat tho. it feels so phoned in and half baked. wonder is the only song where i felt some sense of passion at all coming from her and is prob the only one that i'll use from this. there are some generic dated pop songs that are easy to listen to but they feel so robotic and lifeless that i'd rather not to. i hope all the lashings and constant failure surrounding this era makes her realize that she wasted her only chance at ever getting a hit again with her awful decision-making skills so she can finally move on and try to focus on quality moving forward.

Crush and Artificial are great. Those + I'm His, He's Mine feel like they're the only tracks where they tried doing something. And I feel like they make sense as part of a dance album, along with Lifetimes (which would be better if it had another verse, or a bridge – if it was fully realized as a song. But even the way it is, I can excuse it, because it's meant to be a fun house bop.)

 

All The Love is great too, and it serves as a sort of breather between the more dancier songs, despite being upbeat too. I love the euphoric production, and it feels like classic Katy, the Prism kind of Katy. It has amazing vocals as well.

 

 

...It's the rest that I don't understand  

 

Woman's World is cute in my opinion, but it could have been a properly good song with a bridge. I stand by the fact that the production just works on it... but it deserved better writing.

 

Gimme Gimme... is flat. It has a nice bouncy beat, but that's it?

 

Gorgeous is boring. I can't understand why it starts with the chours  like, that chorus only works specifically if it follows the sleek pre-chorus. Plus the Kim feature doesn't add anything to the song, in my opinion.

 

Nirvana had the potential to be a killer dance track, but it feels castrated. It soars and it soars to something that never comes. In the hands of someone else, it could have been massive. It's still very cute despite this.

 

What I just don't get are Truth and Wonder. They absolutely feel like nothing, as if they were tacked at the end to fill out a tracklist. They are not dancey enough, not quirky enough, not anthemic enough, not even Katy enough. And it's a double letdown because I was expecting Stargate to do some more for her  

 

So in the end it's a cute album, and I'll keep on listening to it, but why was it hyped as her big pop comeback when it's clearly not even in the nature of these songs? They don't feel like they were conceived to be that. Yet they mounted the amazing imagery on it, but for what? It all feels like such a missed opportunity. I love Katy and she'll always be one of my favorite popstars, but the next time she makes a pop album she must challenge herself and work with people that can give her interesting material.

terrible album. not even trash pop good, it's just bland and half baked. damn.

Predictably, this is her worst album by far. Soulless and monotonous production, terrible songwriting (not even ~campy~ lyrics like her other albums), lack of the bridges, adlibs, and climaxes that she's known for..... everything is just so lazy, uninspired, and absolutely devoid of any character or personality. Usually even her bad songs still have her stamp on them (like Hey Hey Hey for example) but some of these songs are giving Kim Petras rejects or AI generated. Tracks like Lifetimes, Crush, Nirvana, and All The Love are not offensively bad but they are SO basic even for her standards. The bones of a good bop are there, but they are completely let down by the boring production and songwriting. The latter legit sounds like a PRISM era demo, but it would have charted for more than 1 week if she led the album with it. Orlando's son should be her new A&R because he has an ear for "hits" ddd.

 

We like to troll Ava Max, but I feel like Diamonds & Dancefloors is everything 143 wanted to be. I tried to leave all bias I have against her this era aside, and I usually enjoy at least 4-5 songs from her albums (Witness and Smile >> PRISM and OOTB btw!) but there's nothing worth keeping here. To think she went from 365, Never Really Over, Harley's in Hawaii, Cry About It Later, Tucked to...this. Whew, the decay.  

 

Her downfall and the way she fumbled all the goodwill she had would make an interesting case study on how not to do an album campaign. I would say I feel bad for her but I really don't. She's still x100 richer than all of us combined and this was all her decision. Hope Luke is enjoying this commercial and critical failure though.

I actually really like it! Aside from working with dr. Luke it's not bad not brilliant either but better than I was expecting 

As expected, everything is just laughably horrific. I'm genuinely embarrassed for her, though - that she has such little self-awareness and self-respect, that she'd willingly put this tragedy out into the world. 

 

That all said, All The Love was a bop. I'll never return to it - because why would I? - but it was enjoyable for sure. Miss Perry did ... that, I guess? 

I really like her and her music, but this album is a disappointment. 
Why doesn't anyone in her team say anything? Do they all really think the music is good enough for a release?

What a comeback this could have been ... with the right people!

This is one of my favorite Katy albums, hands down. Too early to rank it in her discography (until now my favorite was Smile or Prism) but it's really, really good. I'm genuinely sorry for all the people who look at the general consensus and the horrible 'professional' critics and run with what they have to say. Who cares? Whatever happened to the times when we just enjoyed music without looking at scores or chart placements?

I had some time to sit with this since last night and I knew the (monsters) reviews that were posted in here all yesterday were just overblown and weird as expected.

 

to say this isn't a Katy album is just reaching for anything to say. Crush, All the Love, Artificial, Truth and Wonder are all quintessential Katy Perry, fun pop and catchy bubble gum pop gay love, like really. 
 

this album is an easy listen through and through with plenty of gems and the more I think about it the more I realize it's the perfect representation of where Katy is in her life. Wtf were you expecting her to sing about? she's ******* happy and rich and wants to bop and shake her ass and love her child and her man. 
 

score to piss off: 9.1/ 10

 

realistic score: 8.2/10

Wow, this is truly horrendous.

i agree with the comments saying the reactions are too extreme and people pretending like her previous albums are masterpieces are rewriting history

 

its katy perry, i never expect great lyrics or deep meaning and if anything her personality being displayed in her songs results in very weird lines (chinese water torture). the only thing im expecting is bops and this album has no duds? like not a single song is offensively bad, even woman's world isn't bad, it's just a bad lead single. 

 

this album has ingredients to be a great pop album, the melodies are all meticulously crafted and the production never sounds cheap. it just needs slightly better lyricism and a little more push when it comes to climaxes; bridges, explosive final chorus with adlibs. specially artificial was begging for an ethereal 3rd verse/bridge. this album is way better than prism for me
