WOMAN'S WORLD (7/10) I may be in the minority here but I actually don't think that this is a bad song at all. It just doesn't serve lead comeback single material. An electric guitar solo for a bridge with a final explosive chorus would've helped this song alot.

 

GIMME GIMME (6/10) I think this track is overrated just based on it being dragged down by 21 Savage's horrid ass rap feature and because the song itself doesn't really go anywhere. It being dark and slinky isn't enough to warrant the Dark Horse comparisons. 

 

GORGEOUS (8/10) this has potential and I can see why the label wanted this as the original single but at the same time even though it serves major female UNHOLY vibes something about could also make it be received as polarizing

 

I'M HIS, HE'S MINE (9/10) literally my only gripe with this song is that the bpm isn't faster because other than that Doechii and Katy have amazing chemistry and I love how cheeky but sexy this song is

 

CRUSH (9/10) this is cute and I can see why the general consensus is this being a favorite

 

LIFETIMES (9/10) this song will always be a guilty pleasure and deserved to be the lead single and things might have gone differently for this era 

 

ALL THE LOVE (9/10) is signature Katy through and through. Literally the only issue is the lack of a bridge and final explosive chorus to take it there because this song is a euphoric earworm. We demand an extended version Katheryn!

 

NIRVANA (8/10) is definitely a bop but what a production misstep to only feature the drop at the very end. It makes the song drag and makes it end on an anticlimactic note. The extended version that features the drop after the first chorus and again at the end fills the song out much more in satisfying way 

 

Both ARTIFICAL and TRUTH are 9/10 especially cause production wise they remind me alot of WITNESS with it sounding retro and weird but still pop. ARTIFICIAL also giving very Sophie, Danny L Harle, Charli XCX hyperpop realness. Very curious about how the Doechii version of this song sounds like

 

WONDER is very cute and while DAISY is very cute her intro is more than enough. After the bridge Katy coming back in doing the final chorus would've been chef's kiss 8/10

 

HAS A HEART 8/10 is also another cute track. Happy to hear it and I can see this being the direction that she goes in the future. 

 

Desperately awaiting to hear Okay, No Tears For New Year's and I Woke Up. I hope that she makes all of the bonus tracks available online asap.

I was so hyped for it and I'm so disappointed, the idk anymore how many feats, are the worst songs on the album

I don't think they could've done that though. I think the vinyls had probably already been printed and the VMAs and Rock In Rio were already set in stone. The schedule was fixed.

 

But what I'm saying is — I think her brand image has been SO  damaged that it's making the music sound worse than it is. We're all thinking, "ew…flop" before even pressing play.

 

I think it'll age better than how it's being received now. In 30 years time, when gay teenagers on ATRL are discussing how successful 'Teenage Dream' was, some of them will look into her discography, like we all do with Madonna, Kylie and Cher's discographies, and I think they'll enjoy '143' more than anyone here right now is.

Even as a KatyCat, I honestly had that ick feeling before deciding to dive into listening to the album. Perhaps that's why I think the first few tracks are weak, and I thought the album started getting better halfway through Crush when I started letting my guard down.

 

Anyway, I think the songs would have been a lot more enjoyable if they were longer. I'm tired of this 2-3 minute meta.

I love Nirvana and Wonder.

I remember disliking the beat drop of Nirvana from the snippet but I didn't dislike it here at all in full. I thought it went well w the rest of the song.

Do we know what are the bonus tracks?

Only crush is fine, other sounds so dated. 

Album is better than I was expecting based off the singles 

Artificial is so fun…. It's kinda the only song on the album other than lifetimes and I'm his he's mine to really get me moving. 
 

listen I understand all the criticisms and agree with a lot of them, I wouldn't call this a good album but I can't help feeling like if some kpop girlies released the exact same thing, it would be received a LOT differently. The narrative surrounding Katy is definitely skewing the perception of the music here. It's still 5/10 though lmao

Exactly what I said in my comment. And yes it is a good album. It isn't SPECTACULAR but it's good.

I think Lifetimes is the only song I'll choose to listen to again. Huge decline from Smile, and that's obviously saying a lot because Smile wasn't great.

Let me start the review off by saying I have been a pretty die hard kat, only recently left between Lifetimes and IHHM (no fault to IHHM - it very much grew on me and is probably the best of the 3 singles we heard before release) however - I also know the kats are probably sick of the bias negative reviews. However my review is not stunning however it will be as unbiased as can be so read ahead at your own peril:

It feels as though the album definitely wanted to make a departure from the KP pop sound we're used to. They clearly wanted to make a pop album geared towards clubbing and partying - hence the slogan of being a party that everyone is invited to. I think my main gripe of the project is most songs are great for a verse and a chorus and don't evolve beyond that. No developing adlibs or production - and the lyricism does nothing to help that shortcoming. There are far and few moments that reach the Katy we know and love - I do think All The Love comes to closest to that - something about Crush is in that ballpark but that may just be because it's new and the novelty may wear off quick. But I think Katy's creative drive died in Witness. She wanted to experiment in that - which backfired with the public and clearly weighed heavily on her as an artist. Then with Smile she sort of just retreated old ground. And now we're here where - it's a new sonic landscape but nothing that's inspired. The closest track to being something that wants to be innovative is maybe Artificial (?) (I would like to hear the Doechii version because that might wrap a bow on an almost promising song). Anyway as a former Kat, I believe this has sealed the deal for me to move on. For my remaining Kats I wish you well, and I hope you have a great time at the 143 tour

I get it, it does feel a little like punching down. It's not a complete ear-sore of an album, it's just kind of an easy target and… kinda boring. Like, if I don't laugh I'd potentially fall asleep. 😂 

But if I'm being perfectly honest and fair, I did like 2 songs enough to listen again, so there's that. ;p

When you endured the first three songs and finally can start bopping to IHHM

A lifeless album without barely any vocal or instrumental hook working. Terrible lyrics, rupaulyish production...

The only song I truly like is Lifetimes and I also enjoyed All The Love and Crush. Wonder, Truth and IHHM are fine, but I don't see myself coming back to them that much. The rest is just not it, especially Gimme Gimme, which is so atrocious that I couldn't even get myself to finish it.

I did not expect that, but it really is her worst album

This is exactly what I thought. Although, it's obviously no Teenage Dream or One of the Boys, Smile is much better than this, and that one had zero affiliation with Dr. Puke. You could also still tell it had Katy in it. This one has none of her identity in the songs imo.
 

It really irks me how Katy didn't see Never Really Over and Harley's in Hawaii having several resurgences on social media/streaming internationally AND still thought it was better off to go back to him to make antiquated dance music and lifeless at that!

The way the 3 first songs are absolutely horrid and even IHHM sounds bad in the run 

She was really brave to put them as openers, cuz girl, good luck to survive that.

 

Currently in Nirvana and gladly things are better, All The Love is very cute

What a trash album that wasn't worth her reputation working with that thing again. 
 

It's lifeless and cringe throughout.
