This might end up as my third fav Katy album behind Witness and PRISM. Pop radio ear candy perfection

I feel the album is boppish and easy to get addicted! 

 

I hope the next single is Crush to be honest. 

I agree about her personality in interviews and sad that it doesn't reflect in her music anymore.
 

OT: This album sounds like it was produced by David Guetta cca 2010 :/

I love me some Katy Perry but this album is terrible. There is not one song on the album that is going somewhere. The productions are extremely generic, dated and boring and the lyrics are straight up bad and not Perry-like.

 

and if she thinks she can get away with "just a fun dance pop album" in this time of her career… atleast make sure it's good.

 

Woman's World is probably the best song and most related to Katy Perry as a act and the fact Katy fans are ignoring this fact, means her fanbase is so out of touch of who she really is as a pop artist.

Sounds like what I expected.

 

Had to listen to the album on youtube so I don't affect Spotify's 1st day streams

Well… I liked it a bit more than Smile. 

 

Why is it that Katy consistently has to have the most random, clunky lyric in the middle of what could have been a good song?? It's the sonic equivalent of like reaching your hand into warm dishwater and feeling some food touch your fingers. 

If Luke was not involved in this project at all, y'll would praise it to heaven. Just saying

 

It's such a fun record with a solid tracklist, no filler like most of her albums. The 2nd half especially >>>>>>>>>>

this era is kind of sad to watch tbh

 

before she released it felt like the stars and planets were aligning for her ... ALL she had to do was release good music

You're obv free to like it or not, but what you said feels def exaggerated cause I think 143 is an objectively good album.

If Luke was not involved in this project at all, the production wouldn't sound so dated...

There is no such thing as objectively good music. All subject to taste and interpretation. 

 

This album just doesn't do it for me, sadly.  Glad you like it though!

I dont understand how the generic pop songs by random djs that play at my gym can have more compelling lyrics and melodies than whatever this premium team could cook up??

 

Sigh, the visuals are so strong too, just such a waste.

My main problem with the album is that the melodies sound really cheap and uncreative.

 

Like, Katy was known for rich and interesting melodies in her prime (and as recent as in Smile - NRO, HIH, Daisies...). I remember when everyone tried to chase EDM and dance trends in early 2010s, Katy was always in her own lane in pop music. Even when she was doing generic stuff like Roar - it still had a character, it still screamed Katy.

 

Now she looks like she wants to get a piece of that cake and return 10 years ago, but doing things far more uninspired. Lifetimes is the epitome of what I am talking about - I still can't believe she released something like this.

Wonder was the only interesting and fresh song on this album. Reminds me of What About Us by Pink. I think it's a shame that track 2, 3 and 4 are features. We have not waited +4 years to be feed with features in the beginning of the album. We're here for Katy.

 

Katy is known and popular for her colorful and bright lyrics/melodies. This album is nothing of that. The production is dated and what's up with the trap influences? Wonder felt inspiring and uplifting, that should've been the theme for the entire album.

What an all-round lazy - devoid-of-any-emotion - execution in every respect: music, lyrics, vocals (well not entirely but still), production. Seems to me like their one goal with this album was to give their contribution to the all too fashionable general dumbing down of the population...

 

Lifetimes is the only song worth keeping. A summer "bop." Nothing less and nothing more.

Come up with some lyrics for a carefree pop dance record I wanna be surprised!
