Why doesn't Miley get lashed as hard for flopping?

Featured Replies

Idk but I really think her general stature is a little overrated tbh. Obviously a legend in the Disney world but I wouldn't think of her as one outside of it, although others treat her like one.

No real consistent run in terms of quality or success. Just odd flashes.

she has achieved everything a main pop girl has to achieve when she was 13-25, she has the money, the stats, the sales, the streams, the a-list status etc she's just doing whatever the **** she wants

also, the reason why K*ty P*erry gets lashed 24/7 is she's very desperate, looks very try hard and cheap while the music is as basic and unlistenable as her early unlistenable dr r4pe stuff from the 2

  • Cause she's always flopping

Hannah Montana is already bigger than most pop girls. Miley has fulfilled her duty and she's allowed to just have fun now.

cause she's flopped before and shes established, forever A-list. Even if her album tanked, she could still go on a sold out global tour if she wanted to.

I don't agree with these takes. Objectively, Miley hasn't achieved more than Gaga or even Katy musically at all and has been flopping the second she parted ways with the Hannah Montana brand with Can't Be Tamed. She has one truly big era which was Bangerz and even that was largely due to the controversies of her looks and how she behaved. She then flopped back-to-back again until she made Flowers but the album still flopped.

She doesn't have a dedicated fanbase, she's mostly just famous. And this is the conclusion you can get to by looking at her stats. Why she gets treated differently when she flops than when Gaga or Beyoncé do is because they are held to a much, much, much higher standard simply because they are way bigger and more relevant than her.

She's a non factor and has no fan base that obsess over her flopping. Katy has multiple fanbases that obsess over her, they're a very vocal bunch.

Probably because she doesn't care when compared to other pop singers her age.

Because she is talented and doesn't needs to prove anything at this point of her career.

Babes at this point Miley could flop with every album and it wouldn't matter! She's a legend already and started super young. Maybe commercially she's a bit past her peak but artistic wise she's putting out beautiful work. No artist remain at the top forever.

People just don't care enough to. Outside of Hannah Montana, she doesn't have a loud, dedicated fanbase.

She's seen as more of a celebrity than an artist by most. Which is ironic cause her main career is in music and not anything else

Because it's clear after all this time that regardless of her corporate Disney origins, this is not just a side gig aimed at expanding her 'brand'. This is for real and she wants to be a real artist. She has a vision, she's passionate, she loves making music. So that's why despite some of her experiments failing, she gets a bit of a pass because she actually experimented. Dead Petz is probably the most left field, bizarre release by a major pop star ever. Younger Now was admirably devoid of writing camps. Something Beautiful was not an album any other artist could've released and she did not go the easy route to chase a hit.

She's the millennial Cher. Success in TV, movies, music ebbing and flowing but always staying relevant and visible. And like Cher she has three enormous iconic smashes that cement her status forever.

1) Her fans are not as loud - at least in ATRL that is, not sure on other platforms like X as I haven't spend as much time there

2) Not to be shady but lower baseline for "success" due to her previous album already sold lower than her last "blockbuster album" Endless Summer Vacation

3) She's harmless to the GP's eyes so her "down eras" doesn't get magnified as easily

The amount of losers downvoting posts that say she has achieved everything there is to achieve and how they like her too much and thus there is no reason to drag her for flopping deadbanana2 like... some of yall get seriously pissed when others don't exhibit the same amount of loser behavior as yourselves deadbanana

Shes always just been a supporting popgirl. She can succeed but the culture can and will continue to exist with or without Miley Cyrus.

When compared to someone like Christina Aguilera the reason is plain and simple Christina was the HBIC of 2003, she also ruled the hot 100 in the year 2000 her peak was so colossal that even with Britney having racist america on her side giving her an edge in the numbers she still has the 2nd biggest debut/peak for a female artist and that within itself is the definition of a main pop girl. That is why even though she flops badly nowadays she has a massive amount of Industry respect and the real reason why her flopping made such a big splash.

Miley flopping is just Miley Miley-ing. She was never on top of the world, never EVER.

Lol yall are so selective with who you give a pass and who you dont give a pass rip

It's true though?

Hannah Montana was an absolute phenomenon that put a 15 year old on a sold out arena tour that was as challenging to get tickets to as The Eras Tour. There were parents paying thousands in 2007 on fake tickets just to get their kid in.

A tour so massive and in demand that they had to bring back the theatrical concert film just so the many thousands who couldn't get a ticket could get a glimpse.

And that was all backed by a massively successful television show, a string of successful albums (both as Hannah and as Miley), an absolute behemoth of a merchandise machine (merch that sold in record numbers), and eventually even a $100 million (almost $200 million) grosser of a movie.

She was a known entity across all generations. Even my grandmother could recognize her. Hannah Montana was THAT huge, and it cemented Miley as a pop culture mainstay forever,

Everything after that was just gravy for her. She reached a height that many artists will never get to before she was even out of high school.

New albums flopping simply cannot erase all that. Especially because there's been a swath of people who came after her that tried to replicate the Hannah formula and failed to do so, showing just how singular that lightning in a bottle moment was.

People who weren't there to see it in real time, or those who were too young as it was happening seem to have forgotten there was a time that she was genuinely one of the most well known and famous names in entertainment.

Not to mention her brand was a billion dollar brand as a fresh 18 year old

Younger than that, even. She was barely 16 at the peak of Hannah Mania.

Why doesn't this logic apply to Hillary, Katy, and Xtina? Lol

I mean anyone who isn't trying to do petty stan war bs would say it does.

They all objectively had a massive amount of success very early on and speed ran the achievements that take other artists a lot longer to cross off.

The only one of that group I would say never quite met their full potential in terms of success was Xtina due to not capitalizing on the moment in the same way the others were able to.

Where I think Katy and Xtina run into trouble though is that either their fans or they themselves in Katy's case try to hype anything new up as a comeback which sets the wrong expectations for what is likely to happen. And when the likely outcome happens, they get shredded. I don't exactly agree with that happening, but that's why it does.

Miley and her fans don't really do that, and Hilary and her fans especially don't. Expectations are usually always kept in check.

U just posted a bunch of irrelevant **** to try and flex Christina

There's certainly truth to this when it comes to online fan groups. Miley never had a large fanbase online that would annoy or fight with others the way Katy's small, but loud and obnoxious stans still living in 2010-2013 do. I think Miley's legacy will be more fondly remembered along the likes of Cher, who also had musical hits in different eras and very likeable quips in her interviews among general audiences.

OT I think it's because she makes no active effort to perform that well in the first place.

People like to laugh at Katy because she's clearly tried and failed multiple times to regain some of her previous momentum and success. We're cruel and we like to drag others for falling flat on their faces when they try.

It's not as fun to do when someone wasn't trying in the first place though.

Besides the nostalgia for HM, Miley never really became THAT big musically outside of that era. She had some major peaks like PITUSA, WB or recently Flowers but she never sustained a full, dominant era: a big smash album, a streak of massive singles, a great tour and major awards…all at once. That lack of a sustained peak is why she never felt like a real threat to fans and labels of more established artists.swan

Aside from the commercial flop of Cant Be Tamed, her low points barely generate any debate outside of fans and pop stan culture. With Britney, Gaga, Katy, Ariana during DW or recently Dua with Radical Optimism, when the first signs of underperformance already spark media conversations, sometimes pushed by rival labels that actually see them as direct competition. With Miley, though, both the flops and the hits get a softer reaction like: oh look, she flopped again, poor Miley" or "Oh, she's having a hit, good for her"… and that's it.celestial5
