There's a lots of places to live in NYC that aren't shoeboxes lmao Stop letting people showing you studios in midtown or FiDi tell you that's what the entire city is. Uptown Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx all have multi-bedroom apartments, many of which are now rent controlled, for a very reasonable amount. You just have to look. It took me less than a month to find my $1600/month three bedroom. People often settle for something when they can find something better because they think they HAVE to live below Central Park to get the full experience. New York can be affordable. You just gotta be smart, patient, and responsible.

I'm not a native New Yorker or ultra rich. I pay $1600/month to live in a great uptown apartment with two good friends that is three bedrooms, full kitchen, in unit washer and dryer (brand new as of January this year), and my room has a private bathroom. I'm a 2 minute walk from the train station, a 30 minute ride to Times Square, 50 minutes to Battery Park. A 24 hour grocery store is a 10 minute walk away. One of the most beautiful parks in the country I can see from my window. I'm a server by day and do theater or film work by night. The arts are the reason that I and everyone I went to college with are up here. Living up here can be expensive certainly, I won't deny that. But if you properly budget yourself and don't spend beyond your means, it's not impossible to live here. This is a city of opportunity and dream making which is why I and a lot of folks came. The situation you're describing is not a universal one. You can find a ton of good places to live for a reasonable price with amenities you need if you broaden your scope beyond midtown and lower Manhattan. I live in Uptown Manhattan with all the things I listed above for less per month than I'd have to pay for a comparable apartment back home in Tennessee.

It isn't but unfortunately, Israel has worked hard for decades to tie the two thoughts together. I don't even disagree with the suggestion that there has been an uptick in anti-semitism in the world recently. But what so many who comment on that do not acknowledge is that it's directly caused by Israel's propaganda. They have forced the idea onto the whole world that you cannot be critical of them without hating Jewish people, no matter how illogical that assertion is. Equating being Jewish with Zionism is inherently anti-semitic and brings real material harm to any and all Jewish people all over the world, and yet it's what Israel has built it's entire defense around.

And none of the people who died on 9/11 were responsible for that just as the majority who've died in the fall out were not responsible for 9/11. It is indeed possible to hold space for both the countless innocents who have died in the middle east as a result of America's unjustified conquesting and monstrous bloodlust and for the people who showed up to work one morning and never came home. Don't address your anger toward the people who never lived to see an invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan or hear of something called al-Queada or know a world in which Islam and it's practitioners are so vilified and hated. Address it toward the people who decided the best way to "honor" those people was to kill a bunch of other people who had nothing to do with those people's deaths.
