Subjective = Mariah's 5 octave vocal range is subjectively the greatest thing I've ever heard, while Katy Perry sounds like a cat straining on all 3 of her octaves. Subjectively, this is a fantastic album and in my top 3 along with Butterfly and TEOM. The critics (especially that one Rolling Stone critic and some other one) had issues with her for some odd reason and they really took it out on her during this era. Some of her best material clearly came from her feelings for Derek Jeter. I just wish Charmbracelet would get a proper remaster, there are a couple of issues I have with production, namely Clown since it's my fave.

She only flopped for two albums between 2001 and 2005 (and Charmbracelet is a great album). Her latest album, (35 years into her career) still sold more in physical sales than Katy's did in 2025 Katy is just her own worst enemy and she doesn't have the range or likeability factor to come back from this.

Trump is not a "once in a lifetime" specific kind of evil. She kind of messed up her brand by being so vocal about sticking by her man through the cheating scandal on that damn Call Her Daddy podcast. It's a shame because this album is shaping up to be much better overall than Esquemas now that she's returning to pop-reggaeton. I think she's finally found her footing artistically in this lane with more spanglish, genre mixing sounds. The most likely scenario I see here is that she might be collaborating with writers under Luke's publishing company Prescription Songs (as many pop artists do, very hard to get around that now), and whoever wrote this looked it up and wrote that in. I'm not at all shocked about Tyla's low numbers. There's so much potential here because the music is actually good, but everything from the timing, to the promo, and the way this album is being marketed... The whole team greatly mismanaged this one. Sad because I feel like we really are missing black female pop stars *in the mainstream.

I think this era might have legs for Gracie so I wouldn't call this an underperformance yet, especially since she's not really a huge name outside of the internet. It'll be interesting to see how she fares a year from now with this album.
