How is it shocking? Beyoncé had already been at it for over a decade by that point and had been working at this since she was a child. Her whole peers group were in boot camps and found fame and success really young. That's why they seemed "older" or more formed when they were the age the current young pop stars are. On the other hand, Gaga didn't find fame and success until adulthood but you can tell that like the older ones, she had already been building and honing her skills since her formative years hence her mature aura. A lot of young artists today don't have the same tenure of artist development though that's not entirely through a fault of their own.

The days of most pop stars having a distinctive hairstyle or getting a haircut for each era/every couple of years is a thing of the distant past. I can't even think of many modern pop stars that even have a signature hairstyle that they are widely recognized by. The Weeknd had one but he cut it off early in his career, Ava Max had one but y'all just made fun of her, and Billie Eilish grew out of her hair dye boxes of greens, blues and purples. Who else this era got? Chappell? All in all, the most today's pop stars will do now is color their hair "normal" colors or get a trim.

Yes, but they have to exhibit good artistry and interesting vision where the music is concerned. That said, I very rarely am fanning out for an artist that isn't at least decently engaging on stage.
