On first listen I like it a lot more than the other two. 

Kind of fun but it's not a good sign when the best part is an instrumental breakdown.

 

Nothing about this era is really clicking with me. Hammer is definitely the worst.

I'm confident the album will have a deep cut I enjoy though. Or so I hope..

this is easily the best of the three

 

Don't know why but couldn't connect to this one like I did with God Was That and Album Of The Year

I'll listen to the album but yeah, that's three duds in a row for me  

 

Pure Heroine and Melodrama had such effortless melodies and hooks. I hate when this criticism is lobbed at all indie music but this really just feels like dull, disorganized noise.

The historical revisionism going on at /popheads is so funny to me, now Solar Power is revered as an album with strong melodies, hooks and proper climaxes

I really like this  it's like self-titled era St. Vincent meets an Everything Everything album opener like To the Blade or Teletype! very different and progressive for a Lorde song, my fav of the three we have

 

Hammer > What Was That > Man of the Year

Now I know you don't deal much in love and affection
But I really do think there could be a connection

 

Yeah… this is not doing it for me at all, sorry. I'm kind of heartbroken, but I don't think this era is for me. I was and still am obsessed with WWT, but MOTY and now this just went in the one ear and out the other. They just feel so undercooked and unfinished. Glad y'all like it tho.

Because Lorde always succeeded (for two albums) in creating pop music with atmospheric production without taking away from interesting pop hooks, which is very difficult to pull off. This album so far just fails to deliver anything interesting, boring generic hooks and the production isn't interesting enough to not have a good hook. It's just bad pop music.

Hmmmmm I'm not feeling this one, I didn't find it memorable, the best part is the instrumental breakdown and even that is just ok, I've only liked MOTY so far, but I also wouldn't say I'm crazy about it  can't believe I'm saying this but Solar Power could end up being a better album than Virgin, Oceanic Feeling alone clears all of the songs released so far.

I'm blaming the producer. Lorde's pen is still strong.

People keep saying that they'll wait for the album for the full picture but now you can stream Hammer -> What Was That and to me, it doesn't flow. WWT is my favorite of the 3 but Lorde also said it was the gentlest (which I'm starting to think is unintentionally code for "fully fleshed traditional pop song structure")

Still crazy that this is what she's putting out after being gone for so many years. She kinda lost herself musically and you can feel it. It's okay, Lorde.

It's exactly that. From the sound to the mixing to the "edginess", you can just tell she's doing what she thinks she needs to do in order to feel cool. Solar Power not getting the same acclaim as Melodrama was the worst thing that happened to her. This feels too rehearsed. 

 

She kinda wants to be a more "experimental" Billie but it isn't working. And she shouldn't feel like that to begin with. 

 

I'll wait for the album tho. The whole thing will probably change my mind.
