Yeah, it's ridiculous. A lot of artists only work with vocal coaches for performance prep. The idea of getting actual training to grow their overall voice and improve their technique seems to never occur to them. Considering how many of them reference Madonna, you'd think that would be one cue they take from her.

He could get better, though. Yeah, he's never going to be able to sing at her level, but he is clearly someone who has decided to work with what little he has, instead of doing his best to improve and increase what he has. He has the resources and the time to commit to real training but apparently doesn't care too much, which is why there's been so little growth from when he first started.

Those antics were in no way an attempt to "do good for" anybody but Sam Smith and Sam Smith alone. It wasn't about "the community". It was a self-serving attempt to capitalize on what appeared to be a historic moment of public openness and acceptance. Unfortunately that turned out to be a misreading, and the pendulum swung back faster and harder than many thought (though any truly discerning person could have seen it coming). It was a shrewd decision, just as shrewd as the present 180 in image.

It will probably be a fun listen but in the end it will perform similarly to Tyla's. And that if she's lucky; realistically, it's likely to do even worse. Her label is doing bare minimum with her and it's baffling. What's the point in signing a foreign artist if you aren't going to put in the groundwork to help them actually break the market.

If you've been a fan for long enough, you'll already know nothing is coming until she gets skinny. That's the sign to look out for.
