Bella Hadid's Final Bow: NOTES ON TASTE 2025
Over my years on this website I discovered a lot of great artists and developed my taste as it is today, something I will always appreciate. So I thought one last time, I would share my 25 top songs of the year: PinkPantheress โ Stateside Addison Rae โ Fame Is A Gun Slayyyter โ CANNIBALISM! Yndling โ Time Time Time (I'm in the Palm of Your Hand) Oklou โ thank you for recording Sabrina Carpenter โ House Tour Elias Rรธnnenfelt โ Blunt Force Trauma (feat. Erika De Casier) Doja Cat โ AAAHH MEN! Purity Ring โ many lives Magdalena Bay โ This Is The World (I Made It For You) Kinji โ romp Taylor Swift โ Elizabeth Taylor Fcukers โ I Like It Like That Justin Bieber โ DAISIES Fizzy Orange โ Smoke Only Rises (Not Without Fire) SG Lewis โ Transition (feat. RAHH) Rochelle Jordan โ The Boy Erika de Casier โ You Got It! Alex G โ Headlights Lady Gaga โ Can't Stop the High Kali Uchis โ Muรฉvelo Dijon โ Yamaha Donatachi โ Angel (feat. Hannah Diamond) El Michels Affair โ Anticipate (feat. Clairo) Mร โ Lose Yourself (Uffie Remix) NOTES ON TASTE I feel like this year my taste really leaned into clubby house with flickers of pop and a sprinkle of indie. I kept finding really outside the box tracks with pop sensibilities on a cool Spotify playlist called "Cph+" which is made up of the sound currently percolating in Copenhagen. My favorite find of the year was Oklou, last December I saw the Choke Enough album cover on a vinyl shop's "coming soon" and was intrigued by her Y2K futurist art direction, and was pleased that the music matched it perfectly. I instantly loved the album as it captured that hazy soundscape, it reminds me so much of the soundtracks to video games I played as a kid. I'm happily surprised that she's had such a breakthrough in the indie and critics space, at first I kinda thought she would be one of those very under the radar girlies. Slayyyter's WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA is kinda already the shoe-in for my 2026 AOTY, all three pre release singles are perfect. It already feels like the spiritual sequel to the best album of all time (Treats by Sleigh Bells.) She's TAKING it. I really hope it's her mainstream breakthrough. I listen to The Dare a lot and he's now my favorite pop producer, Guess feat. Billie was my most played song of the year but under my self-imposed criteria it doesn't count as a 2025 song kii, but a song he produced is my #1 this year. I knew the second I pressed play on Stateside and heard "I'm freezing OUTside" with that synth that we had an all timer on our hands. He just gets it. Desperately need him to produce an entire album for a pop girl, I don't get why it hasn't happened yet tbqh? Dua, Doja, etc all need to work with him. Tonight by PinkPantheress would be in my top 5 too, what an absolute banger. If you know where to find me, let's stay in touch Otherwise, au revoir gurls, stream Slayyyter

2026 US Midterms Megathread ๐บ๐ธ Dem Primaries: AZ (7/21), GA & SD (7/28)
Quick 2028 prediction (not what I want to happen, but just for a kii as my second to last post): Trump's unpopularity badly hurts Vance's prospects. He fumbles trying to keep MAGA together while defending the disastrous Trump economy. A dark horse candidate from outside of traditional politics, probably a media figure but someone none of us are thinking about, emerges to run for the GOP nomination. This person is a nihilistic Luddite and willing to burn the system down and go after big tech, and claims to be the true heir to the anti-establishment "America First" promise, winking and nodding to the groyper anti-Israel faction. He shockingly ends up becoming the nominee. The Democratic primary gets bitter but Newsom stumbles into the nomination as the left flank fails to unify behind one candidate. The main issue of the election is the mass AI-fueled job loss and electricity costs, and both candidates support restricting it (the GOP candidate aggressively so, while Newsom tries to bind it to a need for balance of AI's power within a liberal abundance agenda and paired with some sort of UBI). Panicked, Big Tech runs one of their CEOs on a third party with billions of funds but the public largely rejects it as there is no organic constituency for this. In the end, Newsom ekes out a win narrowly by losing Pennsylvania but winning Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina.

Songs/artists that should get a revival in 2026
I've been waiting on a song from Sleigh Bells' Treats to get a viral surge. I think so many people don't know it or realize a lot of their favorite pop music of the 2010s-2020s was downstream of it. Kids, Rill Rill or Crown On the Ground need to smash at some point for the world to be fair.

Chappell Roan pays homage to Brigitte; clarifies she does "not condone" her views
I'm not in the business of defending Chappell but I think this is a reach. I had no idea about Bardot saying those things, and I doubt Chappell did either. It's kind of giving the posters on fauxmoi who every single time a celebrity is brought up in a neutral or positive way say "well ackshually did you know they said and did xyz" as if we're all supposed to be terminally online losers keeping mental yourfaveisproblematic lists of every single sin a celebrity has ever done.

What scientific invention are you most excited about?
PP405 for hair loss. It's about to be an Ozempic-like mad dash to get it for anyone who is even slightly balding. It's going to render the need for a transplant irrelevant. The clinical trials show it to be extremely effective and drug companies are going to jump on it quickly (looking it up will lead you to the delusional doomerland of r/tressless so avoid that and read actual articles about it.)

Delete one discography: Lorde vs Charli xcx vs Billie Eilish
They're three of my most played ever (all in my lastfm top 10). But I have to say Lorde. She is so interesting to me because I've never had this situation where I cherish half of someone's discography but then actively dislike the other half Pure Heroine is one of my favorite albums ever (including No Better, Swingin Party and the Love Club EP tracks.) Melodrama I don't worship as much as some but still love and it is undoubtedly an indie pop classic. But Solar Power and Virgin are just not my cup of tea at all, I kept maybe two tracks from each and don't listen to either at all really.

2026 US Midterms Megathread ๐บ๐ธ Dem Primaries: AZ (7/21), GA & SD (7/28)
I don't wanna get too giddy but at this point not even a year in I don't see how Vance can even win the R primary It's almost like if Cheney had to defend the Bush administration by running in the 2008 primary against somewhat more likable candidates who didn't have the same baggage. I'm not being dramatic in thinking that this is the most disastrous things have ever been for Trump while in office barring the COVID period, and even then it still somewhat felt to voters like things were beyond his control. Point and laugh at this in a few years if I'm wildly off but my prediction is that Cruz will somehow scrape together the nomination in 2028. Yes I know he is widely hated and feels like a joke. But he has higher name ID than any of the other contenders besides Rubio, and he is the only politician that is kind of able to thread the populist and establishment needle. Rubio still has the feeling of being too manufactured. Obviously Christian zealot neocon Cruz would be even worse than Trump as president, but I also don't think he could win the general if the Dem isn't wildly off-putting (or a woman )
