There's some issues with this. Any sort of choice is rarely made out one's own free will, choices don't exist in a vacuum that exist outside of societal and cultural structures and influences Just because a woman chooses something, it doesn't automatically make it morally correct, unproblematic or "right" Sometimes a woman choosing something can set a bad precedent, so while a woman choosing to go through surrogacy might be a completely valid choice for her, it feeds into a business that can become extremely problematic for women who are less fortunate than her. There's almost always an imbalanced power structure in terms of wealth when it comes to the surrogate and those renting her body, which requires critical examination of said practice. I am not against surrogacy at all, and I think it can be done in a way that is mostly ethical and I think women have the overall right to make their choice regarding their body, but that doesn't mean we should be ignorant of the feminist critical lens on the practice or on freedom of choice in general. But if we are really dwelling deeper into this topic, there's a bigger question behind all this: do women who cannot safely give birth or cannot give birth at all have the innate right to motherhood no matter what?

It's going to be crazy when we actually see or hear from her next. Can't wait to hear stories about her being a mother!

I think it's completely fair to criticize the practice of "renting a womb" especially as a woman, but at this point the choices have been made and the child has already been born, so I think it's also fair to lay off it.. furthermore we do not and probably never will know the specific details of the arrangement (and why would we), thus making any argument around it completely irrelevant outside of making blanket statements about surrogacy in general. Gaga is going to be a great mother and I'm sure whatever arrangement she's made with the woman who carried her baby is also more than fair, though I recognize that's also up for debate since we don't know. And most people against surrogacy are against it no matter what. Still, I don't think this is the case that needs to be put under scrutiny... And all the OGH who use this as a drag, you are utterly pathetic and you should be ashamed of yourself.
