I lose interest after the first 4 songs

Well, it's better than The Tortured Listeners Department and The Life of a Damaged Eardrum

I really enjoy Midnights. It's actually one of my preferred albums to listen to. I go to it pretty frequently.

Doesn't have a track that really throws a punch like Cruel Summer, Ophelia or Shake It Off but overall none of the lows are bad.

There's a really fantastic album to make if you stitch together stuff from each of the 2022 - 2025 albums.

it's not my fave from her, but there's so much I like about it. from a technical point of view, I think it's very polished and beautifully mixed, one of her best in this regard. from a songwriting perspective, I think she has a few gems there. I just think Would've Could've Should've (which is one of her best songs ever) needed to be on the main album (with a different production).

lavender haze is like one of her best songs ever so it gets points just for that

I really enjoyed the whole era tbh, especially in retrospect considering the next pop album she put out

Incredible pop album and the 3am tracks are masterpieces, AOTY for a reason

Compared to what came before it, mediocre. Compared to what came after it, good.

Personally, I like it more than Showgirl but less than Poets...

with some edits to the tracklist, it would be a much better album. First 6 songs are great. But Vigilante **** and Karma are super cringe and the 3 AM edition is full of snoozes that she would later expand on with TTPD.

Amazing record, the 3AM songs + Hits Different and YLM are exquisite. Sad that the version that won AOTY is the standard.

It's onw of her best if you get it you get it. And the last album I truly enjoyed from her tbh

It's a great album. Production lyrics whew my sis pen was on fire 3am tracks really leveled up the album

All I'll say is that it's factually better than TTURD, rasputation, Camgirl, folkbore & everflop.

The album is amazing. Truly AOTY

I never associate the 3am songs with the album. If the standard album has one thing going for it, it's that it's tight, sleek, sleepy (not necessarily a bad quality when the execution of the production is pretty flawless even if it's not my thing), dreamscape.

Midnights came at a time when my expectations were massive following folklore and evermore. The artwork and concept looked and sounded like it was going to be the album I'd been/am still waiting for her to put out forever. So when I heard the opening beats of Lavender Haze I was gutted. Not because the song didn't sound good, but because it sounded so different from what I wanted from her.

Looking back on what Midnights was, I actually have to admit that it's a pretty strong record and the production is pretty much perfect for the vision. It will never be in my top half of Taylor albums but there are some great tracks on there. Lavender Haze is a really slick, pounding dark pop sound that genuinely sounds like nothing else in her discography. Maroon is a coming-of-age 80s movie that somehow sounds like it comes from the future. Anti-hero, and particularly the hook, is one of those songs you hear and genuinely think to yourself - how did nobody think of this sooner? SOTB - inspire if its clunky chorus is a shimmery, abstract wintery alt-pop smash. The album starts to lose me with the fan-favourite YOYOK which never goes where it needs to go lyrically and is melodically too repetitive. Something about the narrative doesn't hit the way it should - if you're going to be that autobiographical you need to go somewhere with all the details you're giving. It's very surface level and the song doesn't go off enough to excuse that. Midnight Rain is lyrically middling but the production is pretty cool and original. It does sound like you're sitting in a parked car alone on a rainy night contemplating all of your mistakes.

Then you get to the bad. Question…? Awful. You can't just string random words together and call it a chorus. Vigilante **** is embarrassing. I find Karma - while probably the most explosive song sonically - to just be a bit too cringe.

Then there's the truly "mid" Labyrinth and Sweet Nothing which are just not needed. Again, they sound perfectly pleasant but they're just not interesting.

Mastermind is conceptually interesting and fresh and sonically quite cool but again it just teeters into cringe territory (particularly the last chorus) too far for me to enjoy.

Jack Antonoff's production is exceptional on Midnights despite it also being everything that's been wrong with Taylor's music since 2022. He got her vision and he executed it perfectly. She just had the wrong vision.

If I have to give anything to Midnights, I'd say it's probably Taylor's coolest, quirkiest album. It re-defined her pop sound for the worst but as a standalone album it's a pretty strong 6.5-7/10 that could have been an 8 if she'd trimmed the fat and cut the crap. When there's that few songs on the album they have to all be at least good songs.

It beat Sza's SOS and Olivia's GUTS for a reason. A masterpiece.

I've enjoyed this album very much and Anti Hero was very good!

The album that beat Ocean Blvd... 2/10

It's solid pop record. Sonically cohesive and with great writing. Overall I think it's her 6th best record (slightly edging out Speak Now). Overall this decade it is worse than Folklore, Evermore, and TTPD but better than TLOASG.

A lot of songs sound good in isolation but together I wish they stuck to a more consistent theme. Midnights feels more like a playlist than an album to me because of this, there's a ton of bops that seem good for the charts but together as an album it lacked a stronger, cohesive message.

I was really excited when Taylor made this announcement at first because the album's themes sounded very intriguing:

But many of the songs lacked this type of introspection that she teased in this announcement. Also, I wish they stuck more to the 70s vibe that she put on for the album cover and its promotions.
