I'd rather she'd just leave the Showgirl era behind and reflect on it as a valuable learning experience and constant reminder of the direction the public never want her to go in again. Onwards and upwards.

The last few general elections in NI have shown an overall Nationalist majority. Sinn Fein (the leading nationalist party) are the biggest party and the first minister is a Nationalist woman.

I wouldn't bet on her beating Ella Langley. That being said, she rarely does anything without it meaning something. Confirming her attendance at the CMAs is (to me at least) a pretty huge statement and as good as solidifies her next musical move being a full return to country.

If she wanted to play it safe and go for the perfect combination of critical acclaim and swiftie mania, she could just record essentially 10 new All Too Wells and make that the album. Not exactly revolutionary but it would make for a fitting TS13. Passionate grown-up guitar rock disguised as country would be a welcome move in my opinion.

I do generally think her next step into country will be more in line with more traditional country sounds/writing with some experimentation with less conventional chord sequences than the country songs she put out in her first 4 albums. I think sonically we will probably hear more harmonicas and 60s/70s country sounds than the bouncy pop-rock country of her earliest albums. I think a song like Better Man (Taylor's Version), while having a more conventional chord sequence and structure than a song like IKIIKY, is the kind of country she'll veer into on TS13. I for one would love TS13 to be somewhere between the kind of country found on RED and the sounds of the 70s female singer-songwriter acoustic pop (Carole King, Carly Simon, Fleetwood Mac).

There's nothing on TLOAS quite as atrocious as ME! (one or two come close) and folklore came a year later to give her an appreciation from critics she'd never seen the like of.

I genuinely feel it's one of the album releases this decade that could genuinely be described as unavoidable. She was being dragged from pillar to post and criticised for every reason under the sun (many being valid reasons, others being batshit crazy schizophrenic reasons). If you were online at all, you were hearing about Showgirl.

I fully think she is going home to Nashville with the next album and it's going to be singer-songwriter focussed. The Grammys interview and performance was more of a precursor to the next era rather than a cry for awards for the last one (hence why it wasn't mentioned at all). TayCountry is coming to reclaim her crown

her 10 track classic country masterpiece is coming

It's catchier and easier to sing along with. Man I Need has always reminded me of one of those old school soul pop classics that would be played at the end of a 90s romcom. It's been a while since someone committed to that sound.

I really liked the longer hair on her but at least the bangs look a bit better. She looks good though, kind of giving 90s rom-com. Is this her first proper haircut since 2016? I do think she's been wearing some kind of extensions for a few years. I was sort of hoping she'd lean into the hippiness/witchiness of it all and done a 70s rock/Stevie-inspired era. But I guess a change could be a good thing.

it's an exceptional pop song. If she wasn't considered a legend by the masses before it there's no way this song wouldn't have cemented it

' knew it, I knew you' is sonically one of the most interesting songs she's released since evermore. Nothing lyrically too deep, but it's nice to hear her experimenting with new chord sequences and leaning into that 60s/70s folk-rock sound. It's got a bit of a Carole King Tapestry vibe to it, which would be a lovely direction for TS13 and would work thematically as her honeymoon/happily-married era album. Something straight-forward, emotionally deep, and sepia-toned would be lovely.

Came expecting reputation (which I would say is more overhated than underrated) but elated to see some love for evermore. It is a beautiful record.

I could see these being SOTY (CT) and ROTY (TFOO)

The more time passes the more I'm convinced this should have been a full emo-rock album. The sound doesn't match the lyrics' freak. I also kind of wish the standard album told the full Matty heartbreak-induced-mental-breakdown story and the anthology was dedicated to the songs that didn't quite fit that narrative. With a little more structure and tighter direction, TTPD would have been a sonically cohesive concept album for the ages.
