Every country does terrible things. If we cancelled artists for every government's actions, there would probably be very few places left where they could perform, yes. The issue with Zara's decision is the way she is framing the UAE cancellation as a political statement in solidarity with Sudan, while apparently being unwilling to apply the same principle to Western countries. That is what makes this move come across as performative. She is effectively asking her UAE fans to bear the consequences of her political stance over something they have very little control over, while not having the same standard to her Western audiences. If her principle is genuinely about refusing to perform in countries whose governments are implicated in serious wrongdoing, then it seems obvious to question why that principle is being applied selectively.

The same EU that funds genocide, inhumane treatments against migrants and more? There is no difference between Europe and the UAE when it comes to the crimes they support outside their own territories, both are rotten to the core. If Zara can punish her UAE fans because their government supports Sudan, she should also punish her US and European fans because their governments support Israel and also are involved in Sudan, even if not as direct as with Israel. It's pure hypocrisy from Zara's side.

Pop girls now have it way easier to breakthrough and have one big breakthrough era, but beyond that it definitely has become harder to sustain that level of success for multiple album eras.
