It's so good but I hope Antonoff doesn't sue

He's too busy recycling different parts of Melodrama to sue anyone.

I'm on my fifth listen, and yes, it keeps on growing. So excited for her album!

The "swirl" effect in the chorus of WWT can literally be heard in hard feelings.

This is the only industrial sound of an album with 11 tracks mind you LOL

The warbling synth in the chorus really reminds me of a similar synth in Homemade Dynamite. It's so distracting.

Some people saying it sounds like Melodrama, others saying it sounds like Pure Heroine... I think we can all agree that it sounds like Lorde AND THAT'S WHAT MATTERS

Wow what a song! I'm also not a big lorde fan but I loved so many of her songs and this is one of them, the lyrics hit so hard

can the usual certain lana stans that critique every other alt pop artist leave?:rip: It's tiring seeing them in every alt girls threads

Been here for every album cycle and the same discurse always happens with Lorde. People thought she was too "pop" on Green Light,  then they thought she was too "indie"/"alternative" on Solar Power, and now people think she is too "derivative" here, even though the production sounds fresh enough and distinct from Melodrama.

Out of all the artists mentioned on ATRL, she's the one that gets more flack for not being "innovative" enough even though those same people stan artists making the same beats over some little quirk here and there to pass as new and yes I will mention them: Lana, Taylor, Marina, Billie, etc. All of them have made music that very much feels derivative of their previous works several times already but somehow those artists don't do that and Lorde is the only culprit in their eyes. lol, we haven't even heard the entire album and people are already judging it before hearing it in full. People hear a synth and jump to that conclusion lmao.

E: No one is even critiquing the lyrics because they are just that good that they are resorting to clawing out any little production detail to critique. One thing about Lorde is that she will bring her penmanship to a song.

:clack:

The comparisons to Green Light feel like an insult to Green Light.

This just feels like a Melodrama demo. It's not bad. It just doesn't elicit the level of excitement I felt from any of her previous projects.

It's very lorde, it's incredible, yes it's reminiscent of Melodrama but I don't think that's a terrible thing. Let's just hang on for the album. Love the video, love the song. So excited for this to kick off!

Love this instantly more than all of Solar Power.

Not as good as Green Light for me, but that's fine.

it's so mid just as expected.

still a bop nonetheless

I'm really enjoying the song!

I'm glad people like the video too. I could've done without the extreme close-ups of her mouth.

Taylor, Marina and Lana get flack for this with every release. not sure why you would think otherwise. Lorde didn't even get this treatment until now? considering that SP was a clear departure and her release before that was eons ago.

Not exactly the most exciting sound for her to go with next as it feels like she's done this before but better, it's not a bad song by any means tho

I'm sure the album has bolder songs and the team behind it makes me confident it'll be good

The start is so sudden that it gives me the impression that the song that comes before it on the tracklist fades into it.

Love the production. I don't know if it's exciting enough to be the lead but it definitely got me excited to see what she did with Dev, Jim-E and Dan for the album.

The music video makes me want to just throw the entire song away.

Imagine waking up & saying I'm going to film my new music video in four years on my iPhone 11. :heart2:

oh no, it sounds a bit like Melodrama, one of the best pop albums ever made! how terrible!

but seriously, this is gorgeous. exactly what I wanted and needed from her.
