Because what Lana did on Born To Die added nothing new to the pop music landscape. The moodier sound she explored was already a thing before with Amy Winehouse, Florence + the Machine, Adele etc. Lyrically, she also didn't bring anything new to the table. Production-wise, it was still a maximalist sound that several other artists have explored before her.
