The way the video has practically zero budget but tells a stronger story than others that have elaborate costumes, stages/sets, extras, etc. oh

********* don't make that face

Also probably unintentional, yet the line "since i was 17 i give you everything" etc while she's in the middle of a huge group of fans filming her in the video does hit different considering that she's struggle and was very hurt with her own fans rejecting Solar Power.

It's a very interesting video to analyze, from the big empty spaces where she's walking in the wrong way to the crowed park of fans filming her dancing.

sure grandma

The sassy "whAt was THAAeT" in the final chorus is slaying my life. Love how the two halves of the song are sung differently

Yeah I love the dichotomy of her just walking through the NYC streets alone so casually and then having thousands of fans turn up in a park within minutes to see her because she made one post.

I feel like I will like this song when the album comes, but therefore I would say it's a pretty weak lead single (doesn't mean bad).

The song is just okay honestly. It's no Royals

royals isn't even good. this song is

"What Was That" has the same heartbreak feeling from "Green Light", but in a more mature way. It's not her first breakup, she's not a teenager anymore, that anger wouldn't make sense to her where she is now, that's why that euphoria here turned into a contained feeling that focus more showing us how much she has evolved

Let's be honest. Videos like this are cool to watch once or maybe twice. No re-play value whatsoever. Maybe it's just me since I also dont watch fancy videos that much. I mean even videos loke Abracadabra I did not watch more than 15 times.

I think this will do well actually, I see it.

Ms.Tobacco industry is hitting hard these days tho, the girlies asking/singing about cigarettes constantly :nicole:

I don't think I've ever mentioned Lorde here before this release :rip:

I changed it today because it this looked funny to me with the headline

i definitely think the starkness of the core of the video with both the ending and the flashes throughout highlight exactly what you're describing. to me thats the core of the song, the mourning and evolution she's going through, whilst the world exists in this unending spin. and as she's gone through that recovery, she's then able to open herself back up to the party at the end, with a new perspective.

'when i'm in the blue light, i can make it alright.'

This is already a classic in her discography. It'll be up there with Green Light and Supercut as a live experience for sure.

Music videos are dead even for k-pop nowadays

I don't think I'll necessarily re-watch the video very much, and I don't even know how much I care for it, but I think it was very effective. I at least watched the whole thing through to the end, and I sort of got what she was trying to do with it artistically, and it made me think about her artistry in probably a bit more depth than I otherwise would have with just the song.

I like the mv and the minimalistic visuals but sadly I'm not feeling the song :thing: idk it's lacking something, it feels like the entire song I'm waiting for something to happen but it never does, I'm still perched for the album tho.
