I don't think she needs a long hiatus. I'm not sure that would actually improve the quality of her output. She needs to challenge herself, with new collaborators who will also challenge her. She needs people who are happy to say 'this isn't good enough'.

💀 Post Folklore, Taylor had the critical world under a spell, where everything she put out was pretty well liked even if it wasn't deserved (Midnights). This Deluxe broke the spell. I wonder how critics will approach her next record (out next year).

I've listened a few more times. These songs aren't horrendous but they're not amazing either Taylor used to be more of a perfectionist. I think after Everemore she decided she can write a lot and write quickly and basically everything she wrote was worth putting out. She's prioritised being prolific. Obviously that was worked to a certain extent. She's the biggest artist on the planet. But it essentially sounds like she's run out of ideas, sonically, lyrically, and melodically. She can absolutely continue to release at the same schedule she has since the pandemic. She has an enormous fanbase that will continue to send things to number one and break lots of records. I personally think Taylor is an immensely talented songwriter. That is her thing. It's not the Easter eggs, it's not the videos. There's a disconnect. I think she has the space as an artist to rummage around a bit, explore herself, live life, and come back with another step up like Folklore was. I think she has more of those career defining albums in her. She just needs to try a new approach

I real dislike Taylor songs that are about how self aware she is but apparently doesn't care

Yeah she could and should do something similar to Mariah and Taylor. There's two things I'd like: Definitive versions of existing albums, remastered, with vinyls. No alterations. Reimagined or resung versions of albums. New vocals, live instruments, or just reworked. Looking across her catalogue that could create a very steady pace of releases for 15 years or so

I don't think this is some evil plan to sway the grammys, but I also think she's smart about when she releases and the voting window is probably one of the things she's considered. I suspect if the wedding hadn't happened this would have come earlier
