Wasn't k pop demon hunters the biggest soundtrack ever?

No, that would be The Bodyguard which sold over 40M pure rip

Anyway, the Kpop demon hunters movie and soundtrack were pretty huge so it's not over yet but some of the acts clearly seem to be in decline.

"Golden" literally just dethroned your fave's biggest hit. God clearly doesn't like you or your racism heart2

Oh please you know good and god damn well that it has nothing to do with them being Korean and everything to do with the actual music. There are exceptions but most K-POP songs are just terrible, obnoxious or creatively bankrupt. The visuals always have to make up for the music. Spare me the tears

Kpop is literally bigger than ever ripBTS just had their biggest sales and streams in the career, and is about to have one of the biggest tours in history.

Blackpink and BTS solo careers are also thriving.

BLACKPINK just finished their stadium tour.

KPOP demon hunters and APT literally happened last year.

Stray Kids were the 2nd best selling artist globally after Taylor Swift in 2025, and had a stadium tour with over 2M attendees

I think we will just get more global acts from korean companies from now on

K-pop Demon Hunters' massive popularity with literal kids and their parents in the west killed off the idea that listening to K-pop made you "different" and cool, which was a big reason why a lot of teenagers were drawn to it before.

Globally, it's a whole other story.

in a way, its still popular but its not going to be mainstream globally like it seemed it was going to be a few years ago

It is quite LITERALLY the writer of aespa's music and the writer/producer of Black Pink's music collaborating. You can't separate that music from being Korean. It's the kpop equivalent of a max martin and jack antonoff collaboration. The main vocal of kpop demon hunters has written multiple kpop songs with 10m+ sales. rip

The GP keeps picking the most undeserving groups to represent K-Pop on a global scale, and I will never understand it. BTS, BLACKPINK, and SKZ is nowhere near the best in terms of what that industry has to offer.

on the contrary i think it's blurring the lines between being a niche thing and being mainstream so it's no longer "K" POP but just POP

The best was offered in the 2nd gen groups ala RV and f(x) but they're no longer around and the other girls are just not good

i don't like bts but their album did better on spotify than harry's and bruno's. their lead single debuted with 14m on spotify and their album with 110m streams. they're far from over but for a band that debuted a single with 20m+ streams on spotify last time, i expected more.

Omg, please reggaeton next. I'm tired of American media pushing it as the best thing, when we Latinos from Latinoamerica know how basic, manufactured and vapid those songs can be. Stop giving a pass to Bad Bunny, Karol G, and my top fave Shakira cheap output.
Only international music with High Quality next thanks. Lets go back to artsy jpop-kpop like Ayu,BoA,Hikki...Lets go back to masterful latin pop

At the same time, I don't know—we're complaining about basic, generic K-pop, but look at the Billboard charts. We have manufactured, generic songs like "I Just Might" by Bruno Mars at the top of the charts and awful country songs. Americans can't complain when their taste is also very questionable. Love bruno but tea was spilled

The only K-Pop music that still sells is Huntr/x and they're a fictional group from a movie that won't get a sequel until 2029 skull

Wtf is a "4th/5th gen group"?? These tech-ish terms are giving AI, bots and complete lack of soul & depth. I'm glad the kids are finally saying no to this trash.

It kind of reminds me of the rise of anime in the west. It's definitely over the hill, but the water has risen to a way higher base level than it was at before the great awakening. It won't go away but I think its prominence will be less dominant now.

Girl, the **** is called K-Pop Demon Hunters. The **** do you mean it has nothing to do with K-pop ahh The main character is literally based on Karina + Jennie, the producer is BlackPink's producer, the song is based on a hit Korean song from IVE, the concept is Aespa's concept and the vocalist is a rejected member from the biggest K-pop girl group ever, Girls' Generation, who writes hit K-pop songs.

It's literally #2 on the building Hot 100 Year-End and we're almost halfway through 2026. It was #25 on the YE for 2025. It is the third biggest global hit of the decade for an all-female act, just behind Billie's BOAF and Mariah's AIWFCIY.

I'm sorry but you girls talk out of your asses too much. It's a concept that Western pop created when we started defining by generations. You've never heard of millennial pop? Noughties popstar? Etc. It defines pop groups that defined different generations.

Only 6 albums have sold 1M+ copies this year and all 100% of them are K-pop. Learn the charts before you speak on them.

also the west:

britney being literally a slave for 15 years, rihanna doing albums for contract obligations , mariah being sabotaged by sony, payola, zionism, racism, tinashe going independet because sony again, toni braxton financially ****** up by the label, janet being blacklisted and I can go on but yes kpop baddddddddddddddd

Yes and no. It's clear that the GP can get behind KPOP in a wholesome format (KPOP Demon Hunters & its soundtrack) and that certain female kpop idols (the BlackPink girls) who speak English fluently) are accepted within Hollywood, can form connection and be given opportunities.

Most idol groups however will remain relevant in the eyes of their fanbase, and at most make a splash within the larger community of kpop fans when it comes to them being dragged to make another group look "better". The GeePee is not about to check in for fandom craziness or bland polished personalities taylored only to make fans remain parasocial and codependent. Idols make for horrible "celebrities" to get invested in when it comes to audiences in the western market.

Absolutely. For people saying but Golden1!! babe the song was tied to a movie which success was carried by the cocomelon generation

Golden winning an Oscar doesn't really prove anything and will likely end up as a one time fluke, it would be hard for them to replicate its success kinda like Squid Game and Gangnam Style. Massive at first but have no staying power

I guess that's what happened when you prioritized quantity before quality. The industry itself became peak consumerism dystopian that thrives on cultural appropriation on black culture, that deviod soul and continuously prey on young children

Yes. And it's time to stop chasing Western validation. Kpop pre BTS was so much better.

Kpop demon hunters is like a new disney in the US, for family/kid friendly settings. Themed bday parties, Halloween costumes, merchandise

I think kpop's western audience is crystalizing , and it simply looks different then it does in Asia. Its very much commercially larger than its ever been.
