Is KPOP lowkey over?

Featured Replies

I think KPOP def has fallen off as far as the US is concerned and I'm kinda sad. The KPOP takeover era was fun but indirectly it led to endless Billboard rule changes and now music videos don't even count as streams, it's horrible it went down like that.

BTS being deployed at the same time BlackPink going solo and none of them truly becoming the Beyonce of the situation (which could have helped keep BlackPink super relevant) hurt so much. BlackPink also returning and hating every minute of it? Just choppy.

Then the whole New Jeans situation? It really moved the rose colored lens everyone enjoyed kpop with and now it's seen as corporate and fake.

There will still be groups and hit songs but it will never been that pre-covid to early covid KPOP super fun era again.

The way Kpop demon hunters was inspired by EXO and the golden era of Kpop (SM) and that's the only reason it was such a Hit clap3 BTS and BLACKPINK killed the genre by putting out unlistenable music

NewJeans had the potential to be bigger than BTS especially in the West but MHJ killed any momentum they had left. They had everything that was beloved from BTS and BLACKPINK with none of the nonsense baggage that came with it.

You're a Taylor fan and you're regurgitating tag PR scooter Braun backed propaganda meant to demonize a woman who was just exonerated in court? Literally probably the same negative viral marketing that he did to your fav? Choices…

I don't think I can name one single song from this genre except for the original which started it all:

Peaked with SNSD and f(x), never the same since chick3

People talking about BTS, Blackpink and Stray Kids throughout this thread as if all their music isn't unlistenable noise rip

i enjoyed Blackpink up until the Born Pink album. then i kinda came a moew casual listener than fan. dr luke producing half of the new EP made me lose respect for them as a group. their solo stuff is much more entertaining and they actually have a say in everything on their solos.

BTS has a few good songs but they are NOWHERE NEAR the rabid tween fanbase of theirs claim them to be lol. they dont deserve 1/12 of the popularity they have. the only reason they have it is because theyre the first kpop group since Psy to have a US television performance debut.

and stray kids i tried several times but i never got deep into their stuff as far as i did for Blackpink

It kinda is. And btchs bringing up awards or 1M+ sales are proving the point.

The magic of kpop was that it was korean pop for a korean audience heavily inspired by 90s Western pop. Except it was taken to the extreme where performers had to be more than that. They had to excel at everything and therefore be idols.
But just like 90s/00s music lost its emphasis on talent to beauty and faux artistry, so did kpop once it became too big and global It started to appeal to the same audience. Now it's mostly just flavorless western rejects performed by lazy and sometimes untalented people.

yes it's slowly rotting from the inside

glad my girls got out

Agreed cuz they are the worst gg of all time and a bastion of the enshtfication of kpop deadbanana2

I was sooooo obsessed with BLACKPINK from 2016 to 2020, like, I would listen to them soooo much in my car on my way to work and then it slowly but surely fizzled out for me and this last EP, I listened to once and then never again. But I'm still overall interested in what the Kpop industry will come up with next! For a while I also enjoyed Aespa. Such a super cool concept heart

It peaked already and has been on a decline since Red Velvet were shelved wbk

but at least we have Rude by H2H

Considering BLACKPINK is no longer kpop yes...since now they do Western numbers coffee2

BTS and Blackpink are on the decline but that doesn't mean the genre is over at all, no.

You're talking about the male fanbases. There is nothing wrong with the female fanbases of K-pop.

lol you must be new to kpop? have u not heard the COUNTLESS horror stories of female Sasaengs?

OT: Not really but 'KOREAN Pop' kinda died after Gen 2. Now it's basically American pop sprinkled with a couple of korean words here and there.

The genre will never die, just like BTS smashed out of nowhere and BP followed and just when we thought they'd be the exception to the rule, both Stray Kids and New Jeans started smashing as hard as the former groups mentioned, we should be smart enough to understand that Kpop will remain relevant enough, and let's pray the lord next time a smash hit song comes around it is not related to BP, BTS or a Gangnam style meme kinda song.

You all claiming Kpop idols to be untalented and what not kinda screams racism, there are idols who compose and produce music and others even create their groups choreographies.

I found K-pop through Britney's connection to BoA. And what I said is that the female fandoms are nowhere near as bad as the male fandoms, which is quantifiable.

it was worse year on 2025 with transition phase covered up by anime and rosé hits. every human groups (exclude plave) except stray kids and ateez flopped that showed how bad the scene was in last year, now there are breakout hits from 5th gen, finally, and ive comeback big time along with bangtan unfortunate presence.

since most new debut in k-pop now are boy groups, we... honestly dont care lbr but it's a lot better for this year by default.

Just that era of BTS/Blackpink/etc.

They killed off NewJeans who had the biggest potential to really make a dent, but I'm sure eventually, there's going to be a new supergroup with international appeal
