You're right it isn't serious, it's pop music and yet Eli tried to make it serious when she expected Taylor to bear the weight of capitalistic, societal sin. You can't make a pop star the face of corruption and then be upset that you're met with opposition. Taylor is not the guilty party here, industry executives and tech bros are. Eli is being met with scrutiny because she scrutinized someone that isn't the actual problem. And "don't start a war you can't win" is just an idiom. No one thinks this is warfare. It's an easier way to get the message across. Can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Don't throw stones then hide your hands. Don't poke the bear. All of those idioms apply here with the core message being Eli shouldn't incite conflict or provoke dissent with someone that has never wronged her or society at large.

"Keeps getting opportunities" and it's literally just one 11:30 AM performance slot from Taylor's biggest oppositional force in the industry rn welcoming another anti. No one else is going to take the chance on Eli if she keeps unraveling herself like this, those opportunities are going to dry up. The only other "opportunity" she got this year was the Girl's Crush remix and (1) Zara is still building her own platform so it's not like Eli was ever going to succeed off the back of that and (2) her anti Taylor tirades happened immediately upon its release, since then the only noteworthy opportunity she's been offered has been Daisy Chain. I'll be surprised if she's still got a career in the industry even 2 years from now. I've got no dog in this fight though, hopefully she logs off social media and focuses on the art of it all.

Any sympathy I would've had for her went out the window when she claimed Taylor slept her way to the top. Taylor's ascent as a teenager in Nashville is very publicly documented, so that accusation is not only blatantly untrue, but it is violently misogynistic and predatory rhetoric.

At a certain point this myth that she is extremely calculated in every aspect of her life needs to die. She has so many microscandals precisely because she doesn't overanalyze the things she does in her personal life when you guys stop holding her to some standard she herself has never even set then you will see she's a complex and flawed human just like everyone else. She's a mortal, not a god.

I can't speak for that other persons perspective but to act as if Taylor going down in history books as the most successful female recording artist of all time isn't what makes her a legend is ludicrous. Even if you don't value success, it's what propels legacies forward. The Beatles and MJ have their iconography but it is recognized across generations because of the success of their singles and albums exposing people to them. Taylor is in that same sphere of influence now and her legacy will continue to propel itself forward off the back of her success, and that will allow her iconography to be defined in future retrospect.

Kesha was racking up pretty huge hits every time you looked up for a brief 2-3 year window. Timber was kind of her last hurrah but even THAT was insanely massive.

Something something imminent downfall

First impression: I'm nodding my head. It's better than her last two lead singles. Not as instant as Midnight Sky was though, but I think this one could grow past that one for me. Feels like it has potential for pregaming and growing on me

Rolling Stone has sent the quote to press, but it is noteworthy that the 40 minute video recording they released of this interview does not mention Taylor. It is currently being debated whether: (1) Sarah said it & Olivia's team asked for it to be edited out of the video that was released, but it still went to print, or (2) Sarah did not say this, and the video is accurate, but the print is a fabrication. I do not know which is true at time of posting this thread. My personal guess is that the printed quote is likely to have been said during the interview, and for whatever reason it was edited out. But as I said, that's just my guess. Weigh in!

I had a moment with Midnights last night Something about the transition into September made it feel right. For me, Midnights is lowkey reputations sister. Not in a similar way of folklore & evermore. As in how they are both sort of the black sheep of her catalogue, sonically. There's nothing that similar to either of them as a whole. So I group them together as the 2 outcasts They're both pop albums with relatively unique but very cohesive & precise sonic palettes in Taylor's discography. Both received mixed reactions upon release, but no SUPER strong feelings toward it being either her best or her worst. Just .. middling. But both aged really well & are super immersive & rewarding worlds to dive into, especially for new listeners to Taylor as an artist that aren't expecting the electric nature of reputation or the mesmerizing melancholy of Midnights.
