The best part of reaching rock bottom is knowing things don't get any worse. There is literally nowhere to go but up. That doesn't mean a week from today things will be a total 180, but it does mean that you reaching your breaking point means you are reaching the lowest point you'll probably ever reach, and everything else from this point forward will be a slow climb back up to a new peak. It doesn't mean you'll never have low points again, but you will be better equipped when they come back around. Life is a series of ups and downs, just as the ocean cycles between high tide and low tide. Low tides are calm, peaceful, and worry free. High tides are stressful, overwhelming, and, at times, volatile, dangerous, and suffocating. Some people drown in high tides, but others learn to float. The strong ones even learn to swim. Just keep swimming, and the next time those high tides come, you'll be stronger than you were before. Your heart is a muscle, and just like any other muscle, it gets stronger with exercise and experience. The more pressure it's under, the more durable it becomes. You'll see all of this in due time; but I hope I was able to offer you even an iota of comfort and understanding. My heart goes out to you, and I hope that things get better much, much quicker than you anticipate.

Her substantial and abnormal success is not sustainable long term, but what is sustainable long term is the "low" end of her performance being on par with the high end of everyone else. It's like if a movie opens with $300M then slow crawls its way to a billion over the next 6 months, while other movies open with $100M and earn $50M consistently for the next 3 months, but only cap out around 5-700M. Despite a softer "fall," the smaller movies never reach the peak OR the overall consumption of the bigger movie

The fact Taylor has enough headroom to plummet in engagement from her monstrous debuts and STILL pull the same numbers as some other artists peak smash hits is exactly why everyone gets so upset at her

The general public do not hear songs within one week of release, that's what makes them the general public. Even for an artist of Taylor's size, casual music listeners still only learn of a songs existence over time, via radio, public play listing, and promotional pushes on video & social media platforms.

I think the negative reception to TTPD was largely framed as "31 songs is too much" instead of "Taylor had 31 songs worth of material that she felt compelled to share; let's dissect why." I'm not asking the critics to kiss her ass, I'm just asking them to not be so immediately dismissive of her work, because that shapes the general public's perception of the project right away. I understand where you're coming from about critics needing to inject their subjective opinions; that, I do not disagree with. But it's fairly obvious when a writer simply does not like an artist and isn't even attempting to reconcile the redeemable aspects of a record with the readers. A good critic should also be critical of their own interpretation, not just the project they are reviewing.
