This is an incredibly strong and wrong take. I LOVE The Great War, that's my favorite off Midnights, but I will admit it's a different sonic palate than the main album and was correctly not part of the standard.

a lot of it is that i'm not big on bonus tracks as a whole beyond the odd one or two, once she started doing these full length add ons i've always just been very "yeah i can live without the b sides" (this is why i've never really taken to evermore, because i can't think of it as anything other than offcuts from folklore).

i really do dislike the great war a lot tho lmao, if the 3am tracks started better i'd probably not turn them off so quickly

Evermore being released as its own album has had really funny implications. It is literally just COVID-era The Anthology, but the format difference means that only 1 of them counts towards her discography, and we have to pretend it has its own era despite it really just being a footnote in the Folklore era (hence their merge on The Eras Tour 2.0)

Sorry, but Evermore has a completely different mood than Folklore; even the songs sound too different. Closure, Right Where You Left Me, Gold Rush, and This Damn Season sound NOTHING like Folklore. They're clearly two closely related albums, but they each have a distinct musical autonomy. As for The Anthology, it's always either criticized or hated too much: it has some very high points (The Black Dog, The Prophecy, Peter, Chloe & Other and The Manuscript), but also some of her worst songs ever, like Robin and ThanK You Aimee.

Robin hate doesn't make any sense. It's a lullaby for a child. It's to honor Aaron and his family for the relationship they built during "the" pandemic when the future was bleak.
