Luckily she has way more support than hate in the grand scheme of things and I deff know she knows it because she wouldnt be so confident if she didnt! I know our girly has anxiety and self doubt and stuff low key but I deff know she knows she is loved because whilst the twitter think pieces are scathing, she ultimately almost always gets critical recognition and massive sales so it shows her ppl do get her work and ppl do enjoy it!

One thing I dont understand from the ppl criticising her is that they seem genuinly angry she released new music. Like I get the argument of "if she let it bake more she could give us something better" and while that does sometimes work for some artists that just hasnt been her MO like EVER Her albums are literally like 10 out 12 EXCELLENT and two sort of lukewarm projects and yet she's never taken a longer gap than 2 and a half years meaning time isnt an indication of greater quality work. It just means you have perhaps fallen out of love with this iteration of her work but as I posted in my comment above, Taylor ALWAYS ends up shedding her skin and transforming her work after she's done completely using up the current sonic palette / wave she is on so I just wish ppl who dont like the current music could check back when she eventually pivots again like she has always done! That's part of what makes her so great. She just doesnt do it from album to album it takes many years and many records before the shift fully occures and I actually view that as a much more sincere and genuine artistic pivot and journey than just doing the Madonna route of transforming from album to album (which at the time was of course ICONIC but many popgirls insincerely mimicked that later on and it just doesnt do it for me nor does it do it for Taylor seemingly).

The criticism I will give of Patient Zero though is that it has absolutely no place on Showgirl. I've been trying to make it fit somewhere and it's just not working for me (but lowkey same thing with Ruin The Friendship so maybe it's just the curse of the best songs of the project not really fitting). Like it's neither Showgirl themed, nor I love Travis, and the production is something that feels really different from the rest of the album.

Doesn't stop me from looping the song though.

The way she knows she doesn't love him is what's sending me. She's not trying to hide it

Patient Zero - 6/10: I hate that talk-singing bridge. Like girl, you could've done better
Cleverland - 6/10: She wants Shake It Off 2.0 but her voice sounds so tired and hoarse here, the production is fun tho

Pink diIdo - 6.5/10: nice song but could've been better - I want catchier pop tune like what they did with reputation/1989 sad songs, still hate the bridge in this
Babylon - 8.5/10: top 3 on Showgirl - classic Taylor type of song

I think some people are doing too much with encore songs because they're really not that bad, and honestly, they're better than maybe half of the OG. When you set the bar too high, it's easier to feel disappointed

When she released Midnights, people were like, "I can't believe this is the girl who released folkmore". Then, when she came up with TTPD, with songs that could've been part of those records, people started saying her music sounded the same and asking for Poplor. And now it's "TTPD/folklore is better than this" all over again.

That being said, I really hope she takes a year off and comes back in 2028 with TS13 (stop drinking wine, it's ruining your vocal). Showgirl felt rushed, even though it has one of her best pop songs - Ophelia. Now that she's married, she has so many things she could write about: a wedding love song, a love song about married life, her perspective on being 20 years into her career, what it was like living through the peak of the Eras Tour, maybe a "Long Live 2.0", a dance-pop song about being a pop star in her late 30s, her friendships, things Travis has done that made her sad, having a child and wondering whether she'll be a good mom, people making fun of her for aging and how she feels about that, or even a song about being happy and grateful for all her exes now that she's finally found her love of her life;... (sorry I'm just listing sh*t lol)

Also, the jobless music "critics" are truly shameless, since when do you review a deluxe version of an album that you already reviewed? That makes no sense

"patient zero" gives me major midnights vibes. it wouldn't sound out of place between "maroon" and "anti-hero" on that album.

I'm in love with all of it, I keep replaying and the next song that plays when the album is always a different Taylor song and wow she's forever going to be THAT artist for me.

I might also be in Psychosis, but she's right; TLOAS is a feat of magnitudes. If these 4 songs were put at the start of the album I wonder how many people would listen through and have a new take on the album with some distance from their original expectations.
