  1. Can you really accuse me of doing that when I'm citing her as part of an impact that I ultimately consider to have been bad and made pop music worse I love Revival & Selena, but yk, it was this huge era, Britney cited it as a direct influence on Glory, it made Julia Michaels blow up as a writer, it kicked off the whisper-singing trend, etc. and then we ended up in this intimate minimal slump in the years after
  2. Early 2010s pop was definitely still thriving after Lorde, commercially with Taylor's 1989 and critically with CRJ's Emotion. I think what really murdered it was Selena's Revival, and then The Chainsmokers Closer was the catastrophic final nail in the coffin Everything after that was just awful.
  3. The entire purpose of this article being to deflect attention to Taylor Nobody can just admit when a pop girl does something crazy, it always has to turn into "but Taylor Swift"
  4. The original version is just astronomical levels of c***. The Pharrell feat isn't touching it
  5. It's 1 song that went viral randomly, which can happen for any artist & any song. That's a far cry away from "really important album" "most streamed artist in the world" "change pop culture"
  6. ngl I enjoyed these I HATED The Chainsmokers' Closer though. That was a catastrophic event for pop music

  8. This objectively didn't happen and you guys are pretending it did because a song went viral on TikTok
  9. I guess it could've made sense at the time, but Whenever Wherever and I'm a Slave 4 U are so iconic that it's hard to wrap my head around this outcome
  10. I guess I had a completely different experience, cuz I didn't see it being overplayed. I basically only knew it because of the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie But it's a classic.

ARTPOP 2 was recorded alongside the original album and supposed to come out in 2014, which is why people ask for it. Madonna's whole motto was never doing the same thing twice, and now she's doing Confessions again because it's the last time the public cared about her music
  12. The hate was overblown, but the song itself was just bland and generic. Friday was a significantly worse song, and yet it also aged better at the same time

And Confessions 2, the literal cashgrab nostalgia reboot of albums, isn't?
  14. I always forget that Taylor was sort of a MPG before she was even a pop girl Obviously she's had the biggest success since this, but Gaga being voted for that title feels accurate and correct
  15. The merch candle being obviously photoshopped into the pic with Tina is killing me
