All of the discourse around Cowboy Carter is so annoying. She historically isn't a country fan & has nothing to do with country, but she made a bordering-on-parody country album out of spite, and you're expected to support it and regard it as real country music or else you're racist Add onto that, her fans' entitlement around the Grammys, which makes zero sense considering she has more of those than any other artist walking this earth. But I digress.

Dare I say none of these artists have produced an album as good as these in the years since Granted, Sky hasn't produced another album at all

Katy selling Rock God has always been really funny to me, because even though the lyrics are vague enough, its context is so very specific It's about her disappointing her religious family by pivoting from gospel to rock music in the early 2000s. And now it's a random Selena Gomez deep cut on an album that marked her band's pivot away from rock. OT: Whiplash. Should've been a single too

I think most of the criticism was just inappropriate takes about Mariah's mental health (same **** they also got Britney for later in the decade), and then secondarily the movie's writing. The music was more decent than anyone was willing to give it credit for

My whole thing with these comments is like, the public was NOT condemning Israel or R Kelly at that point in time You can look at it with hindsight now like "here's this article about this atrocity that happened, published in 2009-2011" but most people weren't actually aware of that, and it wasn't as widely controversial as you'd think. We were being spoonfed pro-Israel propaganda for ages. R Kelly was still selling records & collaborated with Justin Bieber, Kelly Rowland, Bruno Mars, Mariah Carey, etc. around the same time as DWUW. So it's ridiculous that whenever Katy Perry does something personally bad (i.e. lower-level sexual assault) or endorses somebody that is already widely disdained (Dr. Luke, Jeff Bezos) it can't be interrogated cuz "look, here's this same video of Gaga complimenting R Kelly in 2013 that we've reposted 500x at this point"
