I remember how awesome it felt literally running straight to atrl whenever Taylor dropped something new and actually being excited to discuss the music with everyone, like you'd listen, freak out over certain lyrics or production choices, argue about favorites, change your ranking ten times in the same day… it was just fun... Now it feels almost impossible to have that kind of conversation because every release immediately gets flooded with people desperately trying to be Pitchfork critics, acting like their personal opinion is somehow an objective assessment of her artistry. Yeah of course people can dislike the songs and nobody is saying everyone has to love everything she releases, but there's such a huge difference between saying "oh yeah this isn't for me" and acting like "oh no these songs are objectively bad" "she needs to take a break" "she's lost it" "as a swiftie i'm growing out of her" etc etc etc....Like… no...YOU don't like them, but your personal reaction is not some definitive statement about the quality of the music???? Meanwhile, I genuinely think these songs are great, and more importantly, they fit so naturally into the TLOAS world. They don't feel random or disconnected from the album at all. If anything, hearing them makes the whole era feel even bigger and more complete to me. They have that same theatrical, colorful, exaggerated energy that makes TLOAS so fun.

Some of these reactions are so funny like at some point you have to realize celebrities do not owe you anything. It's not Miley's fault people are broke, in debt or can't afford to see her she's not mommy & daddy and she's not responsible for making sure everyone gets access to her just because people are fans. She found what works for her and clearly has zero interest in forcing herself to tour just because people think she should, so maybe instead of being mad that she figured out how she wants to live her life, people should go figure out what makes them happy in theirs

Miley is honestly such a genius when it comes to music, she's ridiculously versatile, and one thing I've always loved about her is how much she actually feels the music. She's never afraid to experiment or completely commit to whatever sound she wants to explore. My only real complaint is that I wish it were longer but that's just a personal observation. It's easily one of her best albums for me, maybe tied with Plastic Hearts for me. She keeps proving that she really can do whatever she wants musically. I think the bigger issue is that some fans are still judging Miley's career by a version of success that she may not even be interested in anymore. There's this assumption that she should be chasing bigger rollouts, more visibility, more chart domination and a constant presence in pop culture, but I'm not convinced that's what she wants for herself. She seems to have found a balance that works for her. She can still create, release music and have major moments without having to make her entire life part of the machine. And considering how long she's been famous, it makes sense that protecting her peace and having a real private life would matter more to her now than being everywhere all the time. Like it just seems that her fans sometimes attach their own sense of validation to an artist's commercial performance... They want the huge numbers, the massive era, the awards, the nonstop attention blah blah blah because it confirms something to them about how important or successful their favorite artist is, which is the complete opposite of who she is. Miley really doesn't need that kind of validation anymore. Her career, influence and longevity are already established. At this point, I think accepting the career she actually wants is more important than constantly wishing she would pursue the career fans imagine she could have.
