Why is Taylor SO chart obsessed?

Featured Replies

Contrary to most people here, I dont have an issue with the why. She wants to top her own game, she finds satisfaction in doing so, and she ultimately mastered the craft of chart manipulation so kudos to her. I just take issue with her inability to balance these qualities with different facets of her artcraft; when you sacrifice the quality of your output and unabashedly cheapen and distort it to achieve commercial success, you are ultimately not succeeding as a creator.

Icarus there's a literal excel spreadsheet with 5 tabs for 1 Taylor Swift album, let's not.

To make the insufferable gays such as yourself seethe with rage and frustration that the indisputable MPG, doesn't need to cater to them to win and dominate. You're not a demographic worth pandering to. You don't dictate pop culture. You're all irrelevant in the grand scheme of things despite spending an embarrassing amount of time of your lives hooting and hollering in forums that religiously follow charts, sales and numbers to bask in reflected glory that isn't yours.

The people obsessed with basking in glory that isn't theirs is Taylor's cult. They act like they're the ones winning the Grammys and making the money.

Pure, hardcore capitalism.

It's no coincidence she's known as the McDonald's of Pop.

r/TaylorSwift - Sometimes... it astounds me that the girl in this Japanese McDonalds Commercial... isn't Taylor (...or could it be Becky)

I don't know, she probably feels empty inside + she has no talent.

Because she can. Every other popstar within an inch of whatever achievement start coming up with strategies any chance they get too.

As i mentioned in other discussions, people often mistake their faves' lack of demand with them not caring about charts!

I don't even stan her but at the end, it's music BUSINESS. it's her business to make it sell. Selling brings profit. Who wouldn't want to sell THAT MUCH and be set for life?

Her stans* being gullible and high-key feeling responsible to pack in her pockets is another thing and I will abstain to not get stoned in the comments

The real answer is because she can. She's cultivated a fanbase that will spend $40 just to hear her off-key voice memo hum-a-longs to early demos of one of her songs. When you know your fans will quite literally enjoy/buy anything you put out because you've created them this way, what incentive is there for you to actually push yourself artistically? She can just make the same 1-2 step pop songs and reap the rewards. In her mind she has nothing to prove anymore (lol) because her arbiter of success is only in numbers, as she has said implied in her doc whenever she even slightly underperforms.

because she is the most successful artist ever and she is only 36 years old... omg just imagine how many albums she will make, she is the most hardworking singer we ever know, like her or not thats amazing 👍🏻🔥clap3

Yes. I'm gonna keep you informed everytime I see Swifties being off topic.

I’ll ignore all your tags from now on then. That’s not how the forum works and if you’re unhappy with the rules, you can express the frustration elsewhere where you can tag mods and singling them out. Stop taking your random anger on me. I’m unbiased. I have given WPs to Swifties before too. Follow the rules and I won’t have the need to warn you. It’s that simple.

Yeah sure.

So no warnings for the Swiftie being off topic?

Mods can we please get a mega thread for these Taylor meltdowns? Thank you xoxo

Taylor is annoying because all of it is very unnecessary but all the girls used to be this hungry at one point. Whether that be deep discounting CD singles, holding off digital release until radio peaked, pushing songs heavily on playlists or now tapping into Gen-Z obsession with physical product. It's all the same game.

It would be nice to see the new girls or even some of the mentioned legendary artists to have the same impact, showing the same numbers but unfortunately they haven't. Spamming this type of thread is getting as annoying as Swifties overtaking threads about peaks and records when she's obviously the top dog. No one needs that reminder in a thread about another artist achieving something just as we don't need a new thread every hour asking why Taylor Swift is successful, basically.

She's not doing anything that hasn't been done before. She's just doing it successfully

She's doing everything that has been done before all at once. You Swifties don't understand that while her peers are doing the same for each single or album, they're doing two of the tactics here, two there, three there. Taylor is doing them all at once for each release. Name one act who did single variants, music video variants, discounts, remixes and glow-stick CDs for one single. Name just one. You can't.

Taylor was pretty hurt in the 2010s when she saw all her peers get organic pop culture success and impact while she did 1M+ first week in the US and remained N/A outside of the US. She also saw her peers score back-to-back #1s organically while she couldn't. That LWYMMD was practically a "huh?" outside of the US or at the very least not as big of a premiere as her nearest peers' releases must've hurt her so much. Add to that the constant shade from other fanbases that she was local too.

She masterminded a completely inorganic peak that is massive in the US but completely manufactured outside of it. She only scored her first #1 in Germany this year and although she tried couldn't even break Adele's first week sales anywhere outside of the US. Her tour is being sold as this ground and record-breaking tour when it benefitted from being a greatest hits tour that no one else is doing and from the concert boom. In a 2015 state her gross would be at $500M tops. Taylor is not more popular or famous to the GP than her nearest peers and has half the known songs because she's very smoke-and-mirrorish in her marketing.

Because she's successfully created a fanbase who are the beacons of parasocialism, and they basically live through her achievements as their own. So buying multiple versions and breaking records is like a mission for them. So while they fight with their lives for those records, Taylor is laughing all the way to the bank in the background. She basically created a winning scenario loop for herself when she built that fanbase brick by brick over the past 20 years. I'm pretty sure her father ingrained that business mentality in her at a very young age.

There are singers like you describe, who don't put in any effort into their music or craft at all, and never push themselves. They use writing camps.

Taylor holds the record for most Grammy Album of the Year wins in history, all songs she wrote herself. She has written 12 albums that cover various genres and sounds.

Basically you sound like a h8er

You through the years:

"Taylor has no #1 hits in the UK"

"Taylor will never be as big as the other girls in the UK"

"Taylor will never sell out stadiums in mainland Europe or Latin America"

"Taylor doesn't even have #1 hits in Germany"

"Taylor will never beat Adele's Billboard first week record"

I say keep going until there's no records left to break!

All these points are just like omg taylor didn't sell 5 million copies worldwide ! Taylor's tour in 2015 couldn't even do more than 500 millions !

And even if she was local, she outsold most of her peers (without Adele) with mostly US sales, kinda embarrassing for them.
