I have it well actually. No kids. I can save a lot and buy basically whatever I want. 

Out of curiosity, how much does that work out to in expendable income?  
 

Like in the U.S. if I made double that: 130k, I would be down to ~30-35k after tax, health insurance, housing costs, utilities, car expenses and other life necessity expenses.  And that is not including savings for retirement.  Post retirement savings, I would be down to a little over 1k a month.

Whilst UK salaries are comparatively low for sure, I do think the cost of living is higher in the US. If you're in London £50-60k is enough to live comfortably and you probably need a lot less in the rest of the country.

I earn around 3.7k EURO net per month. This is after taxes and retirement deduction.

My fixed expenses are around 1.5k EURO per month (housing, car, insurances)

So this means I have around 2k EURO per month that I can use for other things. (like groceries, going out for dinner, hobbies etc)
I can easily save around 1k per month. 

So I definitely don't live paycheck to paycheck and can easily go on vacation multiple times per year.  Even though I seem to earn less than most Americans...

I just looked it up. If I would have this same job in US, I would earn at least 120k on yearly basis. Even up to 180k 
But things are regulated differently in NL. Maybe in US I would be worse off financially, after all deductions, insurances etc....

Earning 65k EURO in NL seems to be more lucrative than earning 100k DOLLARS in US

Nope.  Also the area I live in is expensive.   Making less then 90k here in Northern Virginia, you will struggle.

That's the other part, it depends on location if we compare apples to apples. Such as London and New York, New York is more expensive but New Yorkers earn way, way more so COL adjusts. A high earning salary in London will be a struggle in New York. Rest of the country, US is cheaper to live in while still having higher salaries.

No, I've never made more than like 70k USD.  At least 100k would help towards making some major changes in my life. Hopefully soon.

No but I was sort of close when I had two jobs. Now I'm a little over halfway there. I have a lot in savings though so I don't have to worry about major bills which is nice. I live comfortably for now. But honestly if I was making 100k it wouldn't change my life drastically in LA  Maybe I'll get closer if I end up getting a job in my field but the job market is ******. 

Made that since I got out of college, before the TECH world collapsed. I got laid off for Covid, my family got me another great job. 
 

 

You need connections if you want to make money in the US. Your skills and education don't mean ****. Thanks god, luckily, my whole family is in TECH and I have networks without having to do much work cuz I'm an Introvert,  and I hate networking! 
 

I have so many of my CS major buddies, WHO ARE WAYYYYSMARTER THAN ME,  that are doing blue collar jobs cuz they can't find jobs in TECH!
