Taylor popularized confessional songwriting on a massive scale, but Lana laid the groundwork for an entirre generation. Even Taylor called Lana the most influential artist in pop. And let's be real, Taylor's best work (Folklore, Evermore) is heavily Lana-coded. She even tried it again with TTPD (and failed). Most of these new girls owe far more to Lana's sonic blueprint than this narrative gives her credit for...

An artist can break every chart record imaginable and still leave a relatively limited musical legacy. Because chart records are a measure of commercial success, not necessarily artistry, innovation or cultural impact. History doesn't remember artists solely for how much they sold, but for what they contributed to music, what they changed, what risks they tookk and what they inspired others to do. You can dominate the charts for a decade without necessarily changing the musical landscape. And you can sell fewer records while leaving a much deeper imprint on the industry. Being the biggest artist of your time and being one of the greatest artists of all time are two very different things.

The same reason why Billie Holiday isn't being talked about... Artists can still be legendary without being constantly discussed on a pop forum.

A hit? The hit status is giving smoke and mirrors, courtesy of Taylor's chart tactics. A #1 position doesn't automatically make a song a hit, especially when its fanbased driven (fan purchases used for strategic chart manipulation) Chart success nowadays does not always equal GP appeal. If the public is comparing your "hit" to unseasoned chicken, maybe it's bigger on paper than in reality.
