Health is a profit driven business, so insurance companies have it in their best interest to ensure universal healthcare never happens in the US. Second issue is race. Many Americans have this idea that non-whites, especially black people are "welfare queens". A lot of social funding was cut in the 70s/80s because of this idea. And right now, the republicans want to cut more because of the same exact idea.
