Lavender Haze is a very delulu song in retrospect. It's presents as this vibey love song, but it's actually Taylor trying to convince herself that she's okay with the stagnancy of her relationship, and that she's okay with not being the type to get married (even though she visibly always has been), and that it doesn't bother her that Joe doesn't check on her emotions or engage with her publicly

I mean she DOES sing about 'Joe's midnights' on songs like Lavender Haze and Sweet Nothing. But it feels very 'off' and melancholic, because (as TTPD would reveal) it subconsciously feels more isolating and like a prison. Another major motif on Midnights is this feeling of "Is this really as good as it gets?" and a state of confusion after an ex-partner (Matty) re-enters her life. She's got 1 foot in the Daylight fantasy and 1 foot in the Guilty As Sin reality
