I disagree! She's too overexposed even in the times of social media to be universally beloved again.

As much as the discourse and criticism surrounding her and TLOAS are ridiculous, over the top, largely undeserved, I also think it's worth noting that Taylor doesn't seem to be in a place where she's likely to take valid criticism and meaningfully translate it into her next project. She's the biggest artist on the planet, has so much going on in her life. Her New York Times interview and her hall of fame speech come across as if criticism doesn't really matter to her anymore to some extent. So tbh I don't have particularly high expectations for the next album, and I think that's totally fine. But who's to say, she's always thrown curveballs and exceeded expectations and stupid fan theories like mine.

When you have Fearless, Speak Now, 1989, reputation, folklore, evermore, and TTPD in your catalogue, you're bound to "disappoint" people.

i don't understand why reputation isn't seen as more of an artistic achievement, it's obvs her messiest pop album but it's hardly a safe record. it goes really hard, has that sexual tension to it that people always moan about her not having, there's a lot of variation (from ready for it to new year's day!) but it still hangs together as a project, has some of her best written songs (king of my heart, so it goes, getaway car, dress, ETC ETC) alongside the massive bangers of the first third. it's an absolutely colossal sounding album in every way. but no, no one's a proper artiste unless they're sat at a piano smdh

I think most people call it a safe record because it was the only one of her records that followed a trend in Pop music. She is always ahead of the curve when it comes to styles but this time she didn't and that's the critique most people use on the album, which is fair. But I agree, the album is not as bad as some people make it out to be specially Loser stans.

i think the thing about that is that, yes it's very of its time but it's still something for her to carry that kind of album off well, she's still not seen as That Sort of pop star but she proves that she can pull those styles around to what she does

I didn't know Lover fans say that To me, Lover is the definition of a guilty pleasure album. I love it, but many of the songs you immediately think of are career lows (ME, YNTCD, IFTYE), the era aesthetics were pretty bad & we pretend they were different, and while there are very good songs, they're drowning in a 19-song tracklist that prioritizes the goofier ones instead

Reputation talks about the same exact things that Lover does, sometimes even in a very similar way (TIWWCHNT), but it's overall a lot more cohesive, more conceptual, and nearly front-to-back huge-sounding pop songs
