It still makes me so happy and emotional to see all Gaga's deserved success this year. The GP immediately deems her as a talented legend in any conversation now when 12 years ago some people were afraid to even admit that they like her for fear of being seen as "too gay." And now we all get to say we always knew it. :'(

Now even DJs at raves and straights on social media use her music which we used to never see. The way she has proved herself time and time again over the years, in a way, really has contributed to progress for the GP accepting the LGBT community as well. :'(

She just needs to book stadium dates for her next tour to solidify her status as the second biggest global pop star on the planet.

What this past weekend has truly showed me is how grateful I am for Gaga & her endless supply of artistry & talent. Bc how is it that the "songwriter of her generation" has 3.5 ENTIRE ALBUMS which are inferior to Gaga's entire discography?

MAYHEM is not just a great album. It shows that Gaga is the only pop culture force left to be reckoned with. Sure TS can use her never ending bag of tricks to ensure her numbers are only ever increasing. However that will never allow her to make art, perform, or book acting roles (had to throw that in there hihi) like Gaga can & will continue to do.

Gaga did her job and boosted Mayhem's streams in the process. Netflix wanted to inorganically recreate the viral Wednesday dance and Gaga gave them a spooky little dance track with simple choreography

You're missing the point. TDD got all this promo because of Netflix. A post album single was not going to get this type of support

It really isn't rocket science. A soundtrack song that was shadow added to a 6 month old album was not going to be a hit. But Gaga took an opportunity and got her album more promo and streams

Sending VIY or GOE or VB or HDDUWM to the radio in July was going to accomplish nothing. None of those songs went viral enough to justify making them a single. This isn't 2010. You can't brute force a post album single anymore

It's time to stop living in the past and move forward. Gaga's Grammy campaign is in full swing and it's time to celebrate Mayhem

Yeah, TDD's general output is obviously positive for the era, and another album-track would've done even worse.

However I feel that the MV could have been more elaborated and meaningful. The hype for the MV was very big since the director was Tim Burton and Abracadabra set our expectations very high. Instead she released a "basic" MV, which made no noise and left the fanbase underwhelmed.

Also the song could've been better. Someone posted a few week ago an AI up-beat version of TDD, and it sounded better than the original. The chorus just lacks something interesting and memorable.

I'm grateful for TDD, but I do think her output with it could have been better (taking into account that we waited 8 months after Abra).

DWAS will comfortably survive the Taylor album bomb (the fact that it would still be #7 without it :deadbanana2:).

why do people hate Dope and Gypsy?

Dope is so powerful and raw.

and Gypsy's "I don't wanna be alone forever but I can be tonight" is so relatable :chick1:

Two A+ ballads oh CHARTPOP the classic you are

I like Dope (it is cringe but in a good way) but Gypsy is a no from me. :gaycat6:

GYPSY'S melody is wasted on a shitty hook (I mama imamamam gypsy gypsy) shitty production and shitty album.

Thought that I would be alone forever, but I won't be tonight

I'm a man without a home, but I think with you, I could spend my life

And you'll be my little gypsy princess

Pack your bags and we can chase the sunset

Bust the rear view and fire up the jets

'Cause it's you and me

Baby, for life (If you go with me)

For life (See the world with me)

The bad thing about Taylor Swift being so huge is that nobody can be normal about her. You virtually can not escape her, and that leads to a toxic loop where every social media post is either:

  • A) People refusing to shut up about their hatred towards her, in order to counteract the extreme positivity of (B)
  • B) Fans doing a bit too much, kissing her ass, in order to counteract the extreme negativity of (A)

Maybe TLOAS will become an enjoyable era in a couple weeks when **** settles

are there any theories or has anyone figured out the meaning of the blonde/black wigs for the Mayhem Ball?

at first I assumed black was Mistress of Mayhem (red opening outfit, "bring me the girl" etc) and blonde was Gaga but during Million Reasons she is wearing the black wig while Mayhem tries to lure her in so that was confusing

I know it's not that deep but was wondering if anybody had any ideas

I think the show in general is continuing the vague narrative of the Chromatica Ball: The juxtaposition of Gaga's early superstardom having fundamentally fractured her identity and the show is a poetic re-telling of her attempts to rebuild it. What's at the core of the plot is that her identity is fractured into three parts: The Mistress of Mayhem, Stefani and Gaga. Over the course of the show, it seems like Stefani and Mistress of Mayhem have made amends, while Gaga and Stefani are still at war, while the relationship between Mistress & Gaga seems ambivalent.

The show starts out with the Mistress of Mayhem in a black wig, symbolizing that Stefani has already made her peace with the Mistress of Mayhem and accepted her as part of herself. She then strips off the Mistress of Mayhem costumes and performs as Stefani in her lingerie, battling Gaga during Poker Face, culminating in Stefani trying to kill off Gaga. The next two acts focus on Gaga in blonde hair, trying to recover after Stefani tried to kill her off, rising like a phoenix from the ashes during Paparazzi. In the fourth act, Gaga is literally going gaga and is spiteful about Stefani trying to kill her off, wishing her that Mistress of Mayhem continues on torturing Stefani. In the fifth act, Stefani and Mistress of Mayhem are going on a journey together to look for Gaga, again not as enemies, but as friends and partners, knowing that she is still alive. They both come to the conclusion with "Vanish Into You", realizing that Stefani cannot kill off Gaga as Gaga vanishes into Stefani, she will always be a part of Stefani whether she likes it or not (just like Mistress of Mayhem is a part of Gaga's personality that she cannot rid herself of).

During the last act, all three parts of her idendity get stitched together by plague doctors, the Mistress of Mayhem, Stefani and Gaga, symbolized by the Black/White hair and the red accents on Gaga's costume. I think it's supposed to show, that in order to remarry all parts of her fractured personality back together, she just had to actively make the CHOICE in accepting every aspect of herself.

Also I think we can conclude that both Mistress of Mayhem and Gaga are figments within Stefani, which is why Mayhem and Gaga don't seem to interact with each other, they both as characters only interact with Stefani. Stefani is the tether to reality for both Gaga and the Mistress of Mayhem.

I will need a documentary/film for this concert/era.

I'm still in awe of what I witnessed on Saturday. :cries:

I've been shamelessly kiiing at that lady's critical BOMB. The fact that Swifites had the nerve to say Mayhem hasn't served the critical success of records like Folklore, meanwhile Mayhem has the same PK score, almost the same Metascore, and while Mayhem is Gaga's most recent offering Taylor's is a streak of three consecutive chops. :lmao:

Fomos hate to see it but Godga has solidified herself as a critical darling. Her discog has been pretty consistent and even ARTPOP and Joanne at worst had mixed reception. It's so reasssuring knowing that my fave is always going to prioritize art. I'm happy folks are finally waking up and respecting Godga's discography which is only going to age better and better with time, whew :gaycat5:

We should be lucky if Gaga gets a solo hit as big as Ophelia

Critics continue to be biased & MEANINGLESS

Please, every song on that album is probably going to outpeak Abra yet Abra is actually going to be remembered a year from now. A real organic hit without smoke and mirror campaigns.

Godga is going perfectly fine :campfire:

Who Will Win?

Lady Gaga, Mayhem
Gaga scored three consecutive Album of the Year nominations beginning in 2010 with The Fame, followed up by The Fame Monster the next year, and Born This Way in 2012. But more than a decade later, she has experience on her side now, not to mention a stunner of an LP in Mayhem. "Lady Gaga always feels like a strong contender for this category," says John Stein, head of North America Editorial at Spotify. "And [her being a] household name helps here." Mayhem may actually benefit from the competition too, Stein says: "I think it might win based on vote splitting."

Who Should Win?

Lady Gaga, Mayhem
Gaga leaned hard into her own history on Mayhem, a record many considered a return to her dance-pop roots. She turned her own name into a chorus on "Abracadabra," got macabre at the club in "Disease," and brought it all to vivid life with a career-defining Coachella performance earlier this summer. It's her time.

Suddenly we love Rolling Stone :ryan3:
