I think old songs dominating the charts is a mirror to our society: People wanna listen to old tracks because times right now suck. Living on this planet is terrible, and people wanna reminisce and think about times when things didn't totally suck. People don't wanna listen to new tracks because being rooted in the present reminds people of how terrible the reality of the here and now actually is. Music right now is a comfort, a coping mechanism. And new things are not comfortable. I think newer artists would have a better chance of breaking through, if we weren't on the fast track to worldwide fascism.

I agree. I do think that is very uncommon for older people to look at the other side as well. There's a huge generational divide within Jewish people in the USA: While younger Jewish people predominantly are anti-zionist, the older generation is almost exclusively and staunchly Zionist and apologetic towards everything Israel does because of decades of propaganda.
