Here's the thing about Gaga though in my opinion. She's *not* just a popstar. She's a Rockstar, and the only one in the new school of music. She's demolished (and been recognized at the highest level) in Music, Television, and Movies. We had a number of people manage that role in the 70s 80s and even early 90s, but in the recent years she's the only one worthy of the title. 

In that way and zooming out from music to a larger metric, she's the biggest in the world (and Copacabana proved it).

I've seen many recreating this.

Btw, did anybody else pick up on Mayhem sharing a few lyrical themes with Chromatica? It kinda feels like Gaga wanted to give some topics a second shot because she wasn't satisfied with her first attempts on Chromatica (Plastic Doll & Fun Tonight -> Perfect Celebrity; Free Woman -> Shadow of a Man; 911 -> Disease). It kinda feels like Mayhem is the ying to Chromatica's yang.

Music critics write their opinion pieces based on the public persona of the star. They critique the likeability of the singer most of the time, not the actual music. 99% of the time, everybody in stan culture acknowledges & understands this. But when "acclaim" is the one thing Gaga (or the XcX girl) has over Taylor, suddenly it becomes this big important thing that we should care about? Please.

 

Commercial performance > critical reception any day of the week.

 

And there really isn't a case to the contrary.

MAYHEM is still so good. 

Crazy to think Godga might be adding an AOTY Grammy to a shelf that already has an Oscar, Emmy, BAFTA, Golden Globe, etc.
