What also never changes is people complaining about who they perceive to be posers at the same time never earnestly engaging with the people they criticize. Whatever happened to saying "Oh, you don't know song by Artist X? It's on Album X, they released it before they blew up commercially, but it's a really great song! You should check it out!"? To be completely fair: Most albums don't get certified right after they are elligible, it's whenever the label feels like filling out the RIAA application. There are multiple albums that are beyond Diamond in units already and barely have been certified 4x Platinum.

It's what the world should strive towards. What every economic model somehow always leaves out is the human's capacity for greed, cruelty and evil. These are inherant conditions of the human psyche that simply cannot be overwhelmed by universal equality, economic prosperity and dignified living conditions. Unlike other people that are seated on the left-wing political sphere, I don't really believe in the good of all people. Some people here on earth voluntarily subscribe to being evil, because seeing people and the general populace of humans suffer brings them joy, and these people tend to strive towards positions of power and kind of always do end up in positions of power. My personal question has always been: How can you set up a system that is for the people and wants nothing but the best for the people, without being corrupted and abused by the people? Even the fairest system can be corrupted by one single person working against it. I think this why communism as a whole tends be volatile. Economically, it is structurally way more reasonable and sound than capitalism. (Endless economic growth on a planet with finite resources is a stupid concept anyway). But since communism is ideologically rooted in an idea of equality of all humans and giving everybody dignified living conditions, it is extremly fragile as a social concept. Because every single perceived inequality and actual failure of the system is an abject moral failure and proof "that it doesn't and will never work". Hence why we see members here posting starving babies saying "This is what communism is." Capitalism is ideologically rooted in accepting inequality, exploitation and powerlessness. It does not have the ideological claim of "everybody deserves to live in dignity", it fundamentally tells us "Some of you are poor and you deserve it, shut up and go work. If you're complaining, you probably didn't work hard enough you lazy bum". We got starving babies en masse where capitalism rules as well, yet somehow no one really cares about starving babies if they're living under the thumb of the USA and its satellite states. This system basically tells us "It's ok that those kids are starving, their parents didn't work hard enough and they probably shouldn't have had kids either way! It's their own damn fault!". In that kind of way, it is incredibly honest, comfortable and hence socially stable and accepted (despite the world economy crashing every 4 years because of it).

Witness has a gorgeous title track, probably one of Katy's best songs overall. I just fail to see how the album was politically charged. Its "activism" and supposed messaging was so vague and didn't really commit to making any actual point that would be considered controversial. Witness does not have the directness of a Papa Don't Preach, American Life, Born This Way, Americano, ***Flawless or a Formation. It also doesn't have any sublety either, it has lyrical platitudes. The album didn't connect because the material is not that good (it's not TERRIBLE, it does have a few gems, but the rest is quite ordinary) AND her image shifted unfavorably from "GP sex kitten" to "Cringe wine aunt without sex appeal who means well but somehow always ends up saying the worst thing possible in the situation" at the same time. The album wasn't really polarizing, Katy as a celebrity herself was polarizing (and she still seems to be pretty polarizing.) The same could be said about the reception of Smile, which wasn't a terrible effort but also not a good effort. In that, I do agree with the Kats that a lot of her reviews really focus on the celebrity of Katy and not the actual effort she puts forth. (Somehow the metacritic scores are pretty accurate for Katy though, the reviews are always more scathing in text than they are in scores).

It was specifically easy in 2020 because digital and physical single sales were a lot healthier than right now, radio was weakened due to quarantine and it losing its main demographic (working people listening to the radio while commuting to work) and streaming was also slightly weaker. It was pretty easy to debut at #1 with pure sales alone. Right now, pure sales are in the absolute pits right now, so nobody (except Taylor) has the means to debut very easily at #1, without the song actually being a bonafide streaming smash out of the gate.
