Asking him to sing a melody and write a verse or 2 over said dance beat is conservative now?

Why do you want those things over a dance track though? There's plenty of pop girls we accept straight dance music from

People will really stan the most vapid, self-absorbed singer-songwriters of all time who are literally only capable of writing about themselves and their relationships but also demand that Troye Sivan encapsulates the entire queer experience and also do activism in a 3 minute dance track. The issue isn't Troye, it's faux-intellectuals thinking they have a right to gatekeep who does and doesn't get to make shallow music. The current cultural obsession with slow conservative music doesn't make you above songs like this, it makes you an npc who can't see anything if it's not messaged to you in a way that's trendy. Even Brat had to rely on the heavy introspective themes to be taken seriously by this crowd despite at its core literally being an album about nothing. There's a whole list of artists including the one he sampled that would be called visionaries for making something equally as grandiose but lacking in depth. The song is fun and fresh and the video is great. He's a community hole and made a song about cruising. Not sure what you all expected from him.

Oh, you're crazed... deadbanana2

This is a bop and that's well enough. The music video is awesome as well.

even the video is meh to me, like you guys haven't got bored with this schtick yet?

I ******* looooove this WAP

The beat is INSANEEE, the sample is well done, the cadence in his talking is so catchy and the video is awesome. Don't know if it'll get boring quickly since it's so repetitive (it almost feels like a tour interlude), but I'll definitely have it on repeat for now

Troye probably heard Sir Ian McKellen said 'fisting gladiators' in 'Invisible Light' by Scissor Sisters and decided to ask him to record the into 😂

Well ... Video is 10/10 as expected, it's basically 'Rush' but moved to medieval esthetic.

Singing is non existent, lyrics are annoyingly repetitive.

You can do speaking house track but this is not the way it should be done.

Music sample usage is cool but using also the lyrics and melody of a chorus feels reductive and quite a desperate way to safe the track.

Song is 5/10

Waste of good instrumental and great video for it tbh

one half is spoken and lame, the other half is stolen

So good. Whew. Really disliked She's The Best sonically, this production ATE. Video ATE.

I personally enjoy Troye's singing so this talking over a beat stuff will never be it for me. noparty The song would def sound nice in a club etc. though I guess.

Lemme go stream angel baby/in a dream chi

God I'm so glad I have great taste and understand exactly what he's doing.

This is cinematic trip-hop music. This isn't traditional pop. It's REALLY good too.

If you want Break Free.mp3 music, that's fine, but this ain't it. Embrace your inner indie girl and try to listen to these songs as soundtracks more than standard pop bangers.

also, he's supposed to sound silly in the chorus: he's supposed to sound strung out. It's supposed to sound like being on a bender.

Where does he get the budget for his videos? Great stuff.

The song is well ... I adore Music so the hook is present but I wish he had used it for a song that goes beyond a sketch.

Now that's a classic!

I love the video. The song is really cool as well but too repetitive. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually. I love how the sample is used, especially when he sings the chorus of Music.

omg can he just ******* sing what's the problem now deadbanana

there are elements i really like, same with the previous single but he again didn't sing over the great production wtf

i've noticed this trend of all these celebs riding the electronic party wave when it's literally not charting… like i'm so confused usually everyone usually hops on a genre-wave when it's trending not when it's tanking

but yeah this is horrible

10 writers are credited to write one verse that repeats 6 times without any word change and there is the Madonna sample

i just love his breathing and then sighing 'music'... makes the people...'

it reminds me of Mylène Farmer's Dégénération, people thought it was a remix when it leaked, it's less repetitive than Troye's but it's giving me a similar vibe

Great GREAT video, love the song production, the hook... is definitely there

off topic: why are people talking about CHARLI in a TROYE thread? i don't see her credited anywhere in this song, what does she have to do with this? rip

people saying "ohhh she ruined him" as if Troye's a little baby who can't make decisions for himself and is easily influence by anyone rip

because we hear her influence in it?
