She literally says in the song she never thinks about him, she broke his heart cause he was nice, how he wanted to settle down early and she wanted a career. She literally says she gets postcards from him on Christmas featuring his wife and kids and that he never thinks about her.

She and Harry had one of Her most PR’ed “flings” ever (second only to Hiddleswift) and it lasted like 5 seconds. The insistence from both fan bases that they are still flirting and writing songs for each other 10-11 years later is…

Obviously i dont mean that literally everything from that song is about Joe, i just have a feeling that the general concept of growing apart kinda fits.. especially with her talking about not needing to get married on Lavender Haze aswell but maybe that is exactly what Joe wanted and thats why it didnt work out (speculation ofc but i get that vibe atleast)

Tbh the MIDnights songs in general kinda gave me a vibe that the relationship wasnt going that well anymore compared to the love songs on Rep/Loser/Folkmore..

Re: fandom and fanatics in general, for better or worse I think it's an inevitable symptom of social media's pervasive nature. For the most part (with obvious exceptions, this is admittedly a generalization) people used to be drawn to musicians' material first and foremost with varying degrees of interest given to the context or inspiration behind their work.

 

Now, we have all this insight into the artistic process compounded with readily accessible public spaces to discuss the content en masse. Suddenly, it feels like an artist's personal narrative is just as compelling and important as the material they release. So, Taylor's overt proclivity for capturing specific emotions through the lens of anecdotal and personal songwriting makes her uniquely positioned to take advantage of the aforementioned shift. Her 'personal life' has been a part of her image for years and years, which I should add, has not made her music inherently better or worse, but it has impacted how people perceive it. I think it's less about certain albums (rep, Lover, etc.) ushering in new toxic or overzealous fans so much as an unavoidable product of the changing ways we consume media.

 

I think we'd probably be facing similar points of contention had TikTok and the like been prevalent during earlier eras, though it is a moot point considering we'll never know for certain (just a personal belief). All this to say, Taylor and her team have been acutely aware of shifts in the zeitgeist, ever-changing landscapes, and marketing tactics through the years and I think the reason some older fans are noticing such a stark difference in swifties now versus then is less to do with the newer generation themselves and more to do with how technology has altered industry practices as a whole and how Taylor has capitalized off it.  

 

That being said, I do think some people are doing the absolute most right now and need to Calm Down.mp3
