Miley - "Bass Persuades"
really like the song. I keep seeing similar criticisms of her identity but I find the idea that she struggles with her identity / sound kind of laughable. She is a Nashville girl with a country legend dad. She grew up on country and with dolly as her godmother. We also know she grew up listening to all sorts of rock. She then moved to LA and was a child star teenager during the height of punk/ rock/ pop rock and simultaneously Britney/ NYSNC/ bubblegum. She then was the star of a Disney show playing a character who was a bubblegum pop star inspired by Britney, Shania, and Madonna. She then was a grown up in LA at the height of dance / pop and the Gaga/ Madonna/ Katy/ Britney/ Max Martin / Dr Luke / Redone of it all. At the same time she got really into LGBTQ culture and was friends with primarily gay men for a bit. She was also the queen of tumblr at one point. Then she got really into clubbing and hip hop/ rap and befriended many of the people in that scene. Then she became a stoner and started experimenting with other drugs that most of us have never done and was low key an addict. Like of COURSE all these really obscure niche experiences that really only she has ever experienced have led to her having a wide range of musical interests. She writes/ co writes/ co producers ALL of her music as well. She's not some Demi lovato being fed a moodboard of whatever is trendy at the time. She just does whatever she wants to do. And sometimes that can align with what's trendy. Thats probably hard to understand unless you're a stan and know the lore. But just my 2 cents.

Why Miley's new album won't work… and why this keeps happening..
She's the Cher of this generation. Gets a huge smash every 5 to 10 years, culturally relevant , universally adored as a person, not an album seller. But also the quality has been great the last 4 albums and it's not like every album clearly strives for radio success

Song of the year. Definitely have to be under 30 to appreciate this. And that's ok!

Miley - 'Bass Persuades'
What's so interesting about her is every persona she's ever had I truly believe is her. Like whether she's doing rock, or pop, or edm, or hip hop, or country , or indie - all feels so very her

It is kind of funny that Miley dislikes things about PH but has no notes for the latter half of ESV. Geniuses are funny like that I suppose.

I agree. Since PH, her artistry has been consistent and you can see hints of the previous album and the next album in every release. I think the complaints come more from how she used to say "this is the real me!" And insult the previous music with every release (although, she even hates PH apparently)

Ariana Grande - "petal"
Video is great. Album is good. But I agree. I feel so truly sorry for her and pray that she can get through this. Eating disorders are a lifelong thing. It's very distracting from the art and it feels very twisted to be saying "yas queen" and cheering when she is so sick

So interesting to me that she dislikes touch it when in many ways this is touch it the album?
