This is true for some stars and artists, especially in the post-WWII era of "American Dream," "pull yourself up by your bootstraps," etc. idealism. But if you look at the overall history of art, literature, and music, many (many) important and influential artists could be called "nepo babies" or at least came from wealthy families. The difference is that they used their resources to spend years upon years honing their crafts, studying under other great artists, and innovating in their fields. The current wave of nepo babies is infested with singers and actors of questionable talent and skill levels who hire more talented people to think and create middling content for them, without putting in any of the hard work it takes to be a truly great artist.

1) Confessions II and Mayhem both pull sounds and ideas from multiple amazing albums across Madonna and Gaga's careers, while also managing to sound fresh and updated for 2025/2026. I don't think Katy has the talent or vision to pull that off. Plus songs like "Birthday" on Prism prove that her TD sound + image + lyrics were already totally played out after one album anyways. TD is not exactly a deep well to pull from. 2) Hasn't she already been trying and failing to recreate TD for multiple albums now…? I mean, that was the whole point of bringing Dr. Luke back, no? Whereas Confessions II and Mayhem are seen as returns to form after extended detours into other sounds and side projects. I think Katy would have better luck if she could find a way to radically reinvent herself. But that would require good music and a likable image/persona.
