ALL THE LOVE and WONDER are so good and very Katy. I can understand the criticism for the trappy ones but no slander for these two please

I swear most ppl would only listen to the first 4-5 tracks and call it a day

I'm tired of the hate train against Katy. Why do people keep picking on her? It's so unfair....... Even though her so-called friends drove her into becoming a rape victim and gossiped about her b

Shes back to making kids music :rip:

I think Katy had an ulterior motive with this album. This is all part of her larger plan to get the industry to stop working with Dr. Luke.

oh wow her mind :clap3:

Locking the MC thread on page 38 was… certainly a choice!

But overall, this album wasn't as bad as I expected it to be!

Gimmie Gimmie's start is atrocious but it gets better in the end.

Gorgeous was a nice surprised, it's not bad? loved the verses. Finally a production that doesn't sound too basic

Crush is a cute bop, while All The Love sounds so basic. It doesn't even sound like a Katy's song.

I actually really love the production on this and some of the melodies are good and sweet. Much closer to the music she should be making than Gimme and Gorgeous. The problem is the lyrics. So basically it's her, she, she's the problem, it's her, I fear

It's interesting that she calls this a dance pop record because most of the songs are actually quite laidback, and tbh I find that sort of refreshing when it comes to dance pop.

Gorgeous is really the only song on there with aggressive, thumping production

1. WW: I don't hate it anymore but it's still barely fit for a bonus track let alone a lead single 4/10

2. Gimme Gimme: really enjoy it, love the faint piano keys gradually coming into the song 9/10

3. Gorgeous: definitely an Unholy redux but very enjoyable when the rising synths come in behind Petras 8/10

4. IHHM: deserved to be the lead single over WW and Lifetimes, her chemistry with Doechii is great, I enjoy that the sample is slowed down because the original's hook gets grating really fast for me and Katy sounds great on this one 9/10

5. Crush: she went full-on eurotrash with this one, probably the most instant song on the album but will likely burn quickly 7/10

6. Lifetimes: "baby you and me" part is still fantastic but alas as it's never repeated again the song is "just" nice 7/10

7.  All The Love: lyrically the strongest the album has to offer, and it somewhat reminds of TD 8/10

8. Nirvana: I swore by this snippet but it doesn't stick the landing the way I wanted it unfortunately, though still enjoyable and I love the callback to the Legendary Lovers adlib 8/10

9. Artifical: on first listen I thought this was really good, then on second listen I thought it was really mid, but I do enjoy how JID rolls into this his verse. A bit of a question mark for me for now 6.5/10

10. Truth: this one seems like it's gonna be underrated, melody is strong 8/10

11. Wonder: I like the message but it's a bit too schmaltzy. 7/10 Zane Lowe said this and Lifetimes were a hit so he might be trying to sabotage Katheryn

People are doing the most as expected. There's plenty to enjoy albeit extremely surface level and that's OK; it's just pop music.

Anyway here's an unboxing tiktok of the spotify fans first vinyl which I still can't order anywhere for mainland Europe:

Everyone involved is at fault. If you can't write songs, get a writing camp? Also, Luke's melodies aren't so great either. The production is so one-note. :rip:

Leaving the memes aside for a moment, it's genuinely sad to see how things have gone wrong for Katy Perry, though she shares some of the blame :eli: Even though I haven't listened to 143 (and I'm not in a rush to do so, judging by the awful reviews :skull:), I do think the album rollout could've been handled better. She's capable of a decent comeback that could restore her reputation with critics and the public. KP still has the spirit of the pop artists of the 2010s as she showed during her VMA medley. She could create another bubblegum pop record with a couple of meaningful hits and stunning visuals. I mean, something completely new to offer to the industry and herself. It may take time, but I'm convinced she can pull it off and her fans should give her a chance :heart2:

I can't believe some people in here are acting like these songs are better than what we got on Smile :next:

I mean people dumped on Smile the same way even though that album was extremely solid and offered several career highlights

WW Demo/AI/Fake version is still slaps — it's the best song from the album.

Very sexy, energetic, these guitars, confident vocals – everything sounds as organic as possible. I want to blow everyone away when she's playing with headphones on.

SLANT 2/5

A Mostly Joyless, By-the-Numbers Comeback

There are a few bright spots on the album, though none of them reach the singer's peak output.

https://www.slantmagazine.com/music/katy-perry-143-album-review/

These reviews are funny because critics also hated Katy at her peak, so saying that there some good songs but they are not as good as her past hits is kind of ironic in a way

it's literally a song for her kid?

why are you taking the lyrics of this particular song so serious?

This was the nail in the coffin imo. And only because of Luke's input. She should've made music with everyone sans Luke and then released more consistently Every year to year and a half to buildup a base again.

she will never have commercial success again. She's been talking about making an acoustics record since prism so I think now she should put her money where her mouth is and maybe get some critical acclaim if it isn't cheap and tacky… which seems to be hard for her.

This is literally what said about HIH when it was first released. And now ppl act like it's treated like a masterpiece s:wan:

With a catchy but otherwise unremarkable beat and borderline offensive lyrics, Katy Perry's latest single, "Harleys in Hawaii," is not only tired, but also incurs a nails-on-the-chalkboard level of cringe
