Katy Perry - '143'

Ew no that's gonna make it so transparent that she's trying really hard and make it seem like she's competing with much younger girls. Those 2 in particular are clearly fans and very influenced by her. So let's not. Thank you and 143.

Wasn't it obvious that "Teenage Dream" was also a trend chasing album? Did you not hear the difference between "One of the Boys" and "Teenage Dream"? Katy's manager implied that the Teenage Dream album was going to sound like whatever was popular at the time, and implied that they were chasing trends. Prism also has copied trends of what was popular, you can hear the slight Lorde influence on some songs along with the type of alternative-rock and trap music that was gaining popularity in 2012-2013.

The blame is on Katy; I mean she was the one who wanted it to be a dance song. It was well known that Katy was sent an already completed instrumental of Dark Horse and all she did was place a melody over it.

I'm tired of the hate train against Katy. Why do people keep picking on her? It's so unfair....... Even though her so-called friends drove her into becoming a rape victim and gossiped about her b

After some re listens 143 is probably Witness level for me at the moment, which I don't hate. I guess that means it is still tied for worst, unless you count her Christian debut. After Woman's World I was truly worried for the album but there are some good songs in here. The problem is apart from one or two songs you could have told me this album was by say Kim Petras and I would have believed you. Where is her personality? Where is the passion?

Katy Perry lyrics are always cringe so I don't mind it as much, but this does feel like an extra dosage of it at times. Even something like Ur So Gay that is problematic tells me a lot about the artist and has a lot of edge which this album doesn't.

I'll still bop along to this album since I do enjoy generic pop, but with so many amazing releases this year this album will probably be forgotten very soon. Well apart from the people bringing it up just to dunk on it.

I will say that the album is definitely overhated at the moment thanks to the Dr. Luke stuff, so maybe there will be people in a couple of years saying 143 isn't so bad. But that is the risk when you take a gamble and work with a person like him in order to chase hits, and the hits don't pan out. I wonder if after all the backlash we will ever get another Katy Perry album.

CRUSH makes me want to go to a club and hook up with some random man. A carefree bop :jonny:

Prism was released two weeks after PH

How did she ripped Lorde?

I don't see her releasing nothing before 2030.

ALL THE LOVE is kinda mid

but that transition to Nirvana is CRAZY :jonny2:

Dr. Rapist snapped :jonny3:

nirvana nirvana nirvana come on katy perry queen of pop :WAP:

Now this is the definition of a BANGER :jonny5:

If I ever go to a gay club again and I don't hear this song I will get mad :jonny2:

Well this isn't the worst album released by a polarizing figure today. An acquaintance of mine just posted on Instagram that Jeffree Star has re-released an album.

So there's that!

Yeah, All The Love is a really good song, not all hope is lost :jonnycat:

TRUTH is good. I don't know what it is but it's got something that I love and makes me want to press replay.

I think she'll either have a new album out Q3 next year before a tour a la Sweetener/TUN (I refuse to believe in 4 years she doesn't have some scraps that other writers can polish up nicely) or Q4 2030 with a farewell tour

I hope this won't get completely drowned out in the sea of replies here, I've been dying to ask this all day and I think it's an interesting question to raise regarding 143's tracklist:

Narratively speaking, why do you guys think Katy decided to put TRUTH on the album? As a slower, relatively dark song about confronting potential infidelity, it really stands out among all the songs celebrating love and happiness. It honestly reminds me of the Witness era a lot.

I'm really curious what thought process stands behind this decision. She could have put any of the bonus tracks in TRUTH's spot and yet she didn't 🤔  I mean I love the song, it's in my top 2, but I can't see how it fits 143's theme

I got my Target Exclusive CD during my break so I will be having my first listen at 5:30 once I am off! CDs topically do the gapless play a lot better so I shall see how it sounds. The paper quality isn't great for the booklet but it's a cute aesthetic.

Did anyone else notice the plastic case itself has an iridescent/rainbow effect while held up to the sunlight? It looks awesome!!

I feel like 'TRUTH' could be about how even when you're in love and having fun, sometimes the past creeps up on you and makes you wonder about how it all went down. The song could be desiring the truth behind the relationship between the singer & the ex guy and what truly caused the split.

i can't get into crush because all i hear is catching my breath replaying over and over

I just think she liked the song that much and decided to put it there because yeah, as you mentioned thematically it doesn't fit much of the vibe of the album since it ends with uncertainty from her side.

My rate after the first listen:

1. WOMAN'S WORLD: 3/10

2. GIMME GIMME: 3/10

3. GORGEOUS: 9/10

4. I'M HIS, HE'S MINE: 9.5/10

5. CRUSH: 8.5/10

6. LIFETIMES: 6.5/10

7. ALL THE LOVE: 5.5/10

8. NIRVANA: 10/10

9. ARTIFICIAL: 7/10

10. TRUTH: 7.5/10

11. WONDER: 5.5/10

Rating: 6.8

Not bad. I think that, overall, I like it better than Witness and Smile. The concept is great and it's quite cohesive too. WW and GG are simply not it although they don't sound out of place in the album. I've grown tired of WW and she's made me hate it because why choose it over IHHM as the lead single? :irate:

Top 3: Nirvana, I'm His, He's Mine, Gorgeous
