Sweetener is a messy ass album, but I have a soft spot for it. I love the whimsical Pharrell tracks and the first 2 singles. ES is a very ... unseasoned album in comparison. There's nothing of interest there. However, the 4 ES singles are all great, especially the boy is mine and twilight zone so I kind of rushed to vote Sweetener there.

The High Road is such an amazing album. It needed a year-long rollout with multiple singles and videos. Let It Rain, Like That, Anything, I Can Take You There

The presence of old songs and the constant fluctuations and re-peaks feel much more real and natural to me than the pre-streaming charts. People don't only listen to the singles that conveniently came out within the last couple of months and are competing for a chart peak. That was an illusion fostered in the iTunes era. People have always listened to older music mixed in with the new stuff and I think the old/very old/new ratio in the current Spotify top 200 most closely resembles our own libraries and last.fm's. Anyway get those coins Ravyn!

I think any chart discussion about the era and, especially, about this particular song, is pointless. It's over and we know why. The lead already smashed before any of the other stuff happened and continues to smash. That's all the era will offer commercially.

No one said it's our time's Dark Side of the Moon, but it's a great pop album and I think any unbiased person would agree that it did not deserve to go as completely unnoticed as it did, especially compared to the other albums currently being consumed.

This rhetoric is SO gross. Why is it ok for Troye but not Sam? What are the "masculine" traits that ruined the mix? Is it cause Troye has a slender, more feminine body and Sam is big and hairy? It's so idiotic to defend this weird double standard as a completely natural thing and conclude that Sam should have just known better. And the worst thing about this take is that it's not even accurate; the only thing that would kind of redeem it. It blindly assumes that if Sam had stuck with their 2013 image, they would be doing better now. We have NO reason to believe that except to, intentionally or not, push an anti-queer, heteronormative agenda. Sam was already struggling to pull US units and commercial hits on their second album. There's no reason to assume that a third, fourth AND fifth album of the same thing would have done better and, as it stands, the "revolting" era far outperformed the current, subdued, quiet one, so this is all a moot point

The problem there was that the title track sucked and so did the visuals. Nothing wrong with releasing two good songs and videos back to back

I don't think non-charting is surprising. Birds Eyecwas also never consumed as a full album outside of LMN and peaked super low. She wouldn't chart without a new hit. I think Handle was the wrong song tbh. Not sure if there's another song that can do it for her, on this album, though. Especially since the Dominic single couldn't. I like Familiar Dreams and Potential but are they hits? Is it time to re-release Skin Tight?

Ah so glad EoTW is winning the poll despite recency bias. An excellent song. I hope she keeps it in her setlists to keep it alive or that it lands on a soundtrack or something..
