What was the weirdest "hate train" you remember...?

Featured Replies

For me it was the sudden hate for Anne Hathaway back when she won her Oscar in 2013 and made the infamous "it came true..." speech

People were hating on her, calling her fake and phony, and comparing her unfavorably to another woman (shocker!) who won that night, JLaw. People really hated that Anne wasn't tripping over her gown or loudly saying she's hungry for pizza when facing the press. rip I vividly remember memes and comparison videos.

She literally had to publicly deny that she was "happy" for her own win. rip

I also vividly remember people picking this Q&A apart and hating her even more for some reason.

I'm not into Star Wars, but I've always thought the Jake Lloyd hate was dumb. He was just a kid.

I remember thinking at the time that the world had lost its collective mind for how they treated Ariana after she licked a donut and said "I hate America" (pretty en vogue sentiment now, huh?)

Like who gaf. They really tried to take my girl out but talent trumps everything at the end of the day sats

Similarly to the Anne Hathaway one: Jennifer Lawrence when people would go on about how annoying she is, leading her to go on a hiatus

Argentina right now. The right is trying to deshumanize us for when they invade us for our glaciers and water reservoirs.

Amber Heard when it came to absolutely abhorrent hate campaigns that set us back centuries, Neve Campbell/Sabrina/Brendon Urie for smaller hate campaigns

To be honest, people waiting 15+ years later to become upset with Justin Timberlake about the Nipplegate after not giving a **** until Twitter told them to and also just making up their own recollection of it (Janet isn't mad at him, doesn't blame him, the incident wasn't his fault).deadbanana4

Came to post Anne Hathaway. The mass psychosis was real

These three. Ariana was VERY ahead of her time especially with the election results next year. Billie was hated for "faking lesbanism" while being queer and Anne Hathaway's was just misogyny. The terminally online was truly insufferable during those times and definitely unintentionally contributed to the far-right blow back that we're experiencing now.

Any Chappell hate and especially that hotel thing was weird af

I think JLaw had a weird hate train around the time Red Sparrow came out and then she vanished for a few years. All bc she was successful I guess?

Madonna hate train in 2006 after adopting her first child from Malawi. She even had to go on Oprah to set the record straight. Watching all the racism and Americans wondering why she was going to africa to adopt when there were kids in the usa in need to be adopted was such a weird take. She was even accused of kidnapping a child from there lmao

Beyonce in 2024 when all the Diddy stuff came out. Out of all the celebrities associated with Diddy, she was the one that got the brunt of the hate when she literally didn't do anything rip

The fact the masses just ate it up and got on board is even more insane. The optics were so clear - Johnny had the money, he has the power, his team were paying for the viral TikTok's.

A sham court case and an even bigger sham public shaming. It was scary and eye opening to watch how quickly the public will rally to defend a man and annihilate a woman. Regardless of evidence or due process. The misogyny in those viral clips was so blatant yet inexplicably overlooked
